Default Keyless entry not working

Hello I have a 2009 XF and the keyless entry is not working. I have changed the batttery twice and the car only starts with the fob in the fob holder. I took the bcar to the dealership to change the timing belts and this issue comes up.
Any suggestions for this issue would be great

I suggest you post in the right forum, this is the XK forum. :-)
It's probably similar as the XK so is the car battery in good shape, 12.5 or higher? They are sensitve for low battery.

CR2032 batteries are extremely critical as per voltage and amperage. I suggest buying the NEWEST one you can find, and from a reputable brand such as Duracell or Energizer.
I had to go through four different batteries in my remote before I got a good one. Check to see if any of the stock on the display rack has been rotated, as is SUPPOSED to happen. Sometimes the ones at the back are the newest, sometimes the ones at the FRONT are newest at poorly run outlets. Heck, some may even be expired already.

I will test the battery to see if that is the problem

Testing won't always tell the tale. I've had many that were perfect voltage that still wouldn't work. Maybe due to amperage.

Beware of cheap Chinese knockoffs of name brand CR2032 batteries sold on Ebay and Amazon. As others have recommended, buy them locally at a trusted retailer and check the expiration date. Keep a spare CR2032 in your glove box just in case your Smartkey dies while you're driving. If it dies, you should get a message on your dash that your Smartkey is not found. That battery is easy to change - just be sure to insert it the same way that it came out - and no programming is necessary.

Examine the circuit board with a magnifying glass for any hairline cracks. If everything appears to be intact, and a new CR2032 battery doesn't work, have that Smartkey checked by your Jaguar dealer. It might have accidentally become "orphaned" from its parent 2009 XF and need to be reunited by the dealer using the proprietary Jaguar software. Both car and key must be present together to reunite them.

Sometimes the little tabs that hold the battery in place either snap off or bend therefore no no contact is made to the battery and you've got a dead key fob (dead key fobs still work in the centre console for start up)

Just purchased a 2010 XF. I can use my keyless entry from the key fob, however, if the fob is in my pocket, I cant ulitlize the feature that allows me to open the driver door with just my hand. This also is an issue with the trunk. It opens with the fob being pressed, but not with the button on the trunk itself. Is there a setting the is turned off or something.

You can't turn the keyless entry off as far as I know

Does the engine start ok with the key in your pocket? If so the comms to the car is working ok
Or do you have to 'dock' the fob to start the car?

The car starts fine and drives like a dream. It's just those two features that seem to not be working.

I would open the remote like you are changing the battery and remove the circuit board and clean the button side of it then try it again. I had to do this with my xk8 remote and all was good.

Thanks for the info, however,i just tried this and that didnt work either. i think maybe it could be the sensor that gets the signal from the key fob that ins't seing the fob itself. That could be the issue and needs to be replaced.

Does either keyfob work to do keyless door open / lock (ie not pressing the buttons)?

If one works and the other doesn't then you can narrow down to the fob. If both don't work then either both fob batteries, car battery or receiver issue

And - just to check. You don't have the second fob in the car while trying to lock it? And if you press the little button on the drivers door to lock it does the car make any noise?

Last question - are you sure you have keyless entry - it wasn't standard on all

Okay so thats what the problem is , no keyless entry. Thanks for confirming that for me. But now I have another issue, the fob opens the trunk, however,if the fob is in my pocket, I cant use the trunk button to open it. What are your thoughts?
