Default Loss of power 2.2 diesel XF Sportbrake.

I have a 2013 XF Sportbrake 2.2 diesel. Today I was driving fine when suddenly I lost power. Car runs but it is like it has gone into limp home mode although nothing is coming up on the dash. No noises from the engine and it ticks over fine. The engine will not rev beyond 3000 rpm and it does not feel like the turbo is kicking in. Connected my code reader and nothing comes up. I have had the bonnet open with the wife revving the engine to 3000 to hear if I have a split turbo hose but there are no noises that would indicate this. I will have to let the engine cool down now before I can get a hand in to the engine bay and feel all the hoses and check the Turbo actuator. When I put it in sport mode with the paddle shift it lets the engine rev a little higher but there is still no power especially when trying to pull away or go up a steep hill.
Is this a Turbo, Turbo actuator, gearbox or electrical problem?

Speaking to a friend who is a mechanic he suggested that it might be a Turbo problem as he has had several Jaguars, Evokes and Peugeot (this is the 2.2 diesel Peugeot engine) where the turbo shaft has snapped allowing one half of the turbine (exhaust side) to spin but the inlet side would not so no boost pressure.
So today I spent an enjoyable (not) couple of hours trying to get to the turbo to check it. Apparently if you can get to both sides of the turbo, so you can hold each side of the turbine, you can tell if the shaft has snapped. In theory that is it. In practice you can forget it on the Jaguar.
First the top of the engine covers, windscreen wipers, plastic screen cover and engine brace have to come off. Next the fuse box and its covering side plate have to be removed. The fuse box it unscrewed and flipped to one side. You can now see the turbo but to get to it you have to remove the heat shield and the actuator. The actuator was held in with four bolts and a circlip on the pivot arm. I found three bolts and two nuts holding the heat shield in place which I could get to. Under the inlet manifold I can see another 10mm bolt on top of the heat shield and had an idea that there was another under the inlet manifold at the back which I could not see let alone get to, but you can't get to it without removing all the pipes, wires, fuel rail and inlet manifold from over the top of the Turbo.
At this point I thought better then progressing further.

I was able to remove the inlet hose to the turbo which allowed me to stick a finger in and spin the turbo blades on the inlet side which was free but I could not tell if I was also spinning the exhaust side. I looking at removing the exhaust from the other side of the turbo which would mean removing the particulate filter housing and again thought better of it.
Decided to give up and pay a garage to do the work and spent another enjoyable hour putting all the bits back on the car. Started the car to check the engine would run and I had left something disconnected when low the light shone and all was well in the world. The bloody car is now back working correctly.

Took it for a spin around the block and she pulls as she should. Turbo spins up and boosts. No idea what was wrong with the car before but obviously I had done something, maybe pushed an electrical connect back fully in, maybe by removing the actuator and pushing the arm back and forth it freed it up. I simply don't know but soon this will be, as Douglas Adams wrote in the Hitch Hikers Guide, an SEP. Somebody Elses Problem. This car is a nightmare and whilst it is working I am selling it and personally I would not recommend anyone to buy one, unless you want to buy mine which is going for a reasonable price.
