Default Lug nuts

Now that I'm the owner of a beautiful XF I've got a question about lug nuts. Are they chromed solid metal or are they two part with a separate cladding over a solid metal bolt?

That was the case with my S-Type and lots of people had problems when the outer layer became separated from the inner bolt and would spin making it difficult to remove.

Lots of talk over on the S-Type forum about replacing the OEM lug nuts with ones from Toyota, Mitsubishi, some Dodges, etc. Has that been "corrected" on the XF?

They are the same piece of S*it as what was on the S-Types. I changed mine out immediately. As you know as a S-Type owner, if you don't do it when they are still good you'll have issues later on.

Gorilla Automotive makes a "solid", chrome plated replacement lugnut, especially made for Jaguars.

Thanks, but will the original lug nut wrench still fit?

I ask because I replaced the cladded nuts on my S-Type with ones from Dodge/Mitsubishi and had to get a new wrench since they had a slightly different size. I believe that was true with Toyota nuts also, they could be used but a different wrench was needed.

Stock Jag nuts are 19 mm, the Gorilla ones (both chrome and black) are 19 mm, all the Mitsubishi and Toyota ones are 21 mm. Sometimes the Toyota or Mitsubishi one fit with no problems, other times they are a problem, it depends on which wheels you have.
The Gorilla ones will always fit perfectly but they are quite expensive.

Do yourself a favor and get a breaker bar and a set of metric deep sockets. You can get ones with plastic covers to protect your wheels, but I find a layer or two of electrical tape works just as well. The OEM lug wrench is about as strong as a wet piece of toilet paper.

I just ordered a set of Gorilla Nuts yesterday. I will gladly post pictures when they arrive

Good word of advice!.. The OEM lug wrench is a piece of junk. I know I bent mine on the S-Type. Replaced it with a X Wrench, but it didn't fit well into the spare tire well. On my XF I went with the
Gorilla power wrench with thin wall sockets Gorilla power wrench with thin wall sockets

I have a power wrench just like the Gorilla one shown above in the boot of the car, way better than the stock wheel wrench if/when I'm stuck on the side of the road with a flat tyre.
But for garage work I much prefer a 1/2" breaker bar plus plastic coated socket, mainly because you can "swing" it around 180 degrees when working on the lower down nuts and so avoid jamming it up against the ground, which you can't do with the power wrench. Also, with the breaker bar, once you have loosened a nut sufficiently you can hold it "straight on" and easily twirl the nut off the rest of the way, another thing you can't do with the power wrench.

I decided to take a lug nut off yesterday to see what type they are and see if I should replace them. I didn't see any decorative top? They seemed to be solid. See picture. I bought this car new....hmmm...

That is a "capped" lug nut. You can clearly see the chrome cap and the steal under nut line above the washer.

thanks. I guess I was expecting some kind of loose plastic piece. I'll look to replace these soon.

It looks like these will fit my 2015 XF Portfolio?

Wish the web site allowed searching by make/model for these parts to confirm.

Yes, those are the correct ones. But the price...HOLY CRAP!!! They've gone up $2.00 each, since I bought them. Summit Racing is usually pretty price competitive, and that's who I bought mine from, but you may want to shop around.

This is where I got mine:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/20-GORILLA-...!US!-1&vxp=mtr

Shipped very quickly and they arrived in perfect condition. They also have the black ones for ~$10 more if that suits your fancy. Seems to be ~$40 cheaper than Summit Racing.

Yep, much cheaper than the Gorilla ones, only problem is they are 13/16" or 21 mm, not 19 mm, and may or may not fit properly.
From my experience the 21 mm ones fit perfectly OK on most Jag OEM wheels but not all, so it can be trial and error.
