Looking to buy a used XFR but wanted to know if there was a way to verify the mileage shown on the odometer display? OBD possibly?

 

Depends how old the XF is. The service records should give some idea and also show if the car has been taken care of. I would expect to see at least a service invoice with the mileage on it for each full year since car was registered for the road, more if it is a high miler. No service records would make me think somebody wants to conceal something

 

The XF series should have a complete Carfax info, especially concerning mileage. A dealer could also look up the service history with the owners permission.

 

If you have access and you can remove the instrument cluster, look closely at the BDM pads for some rest of melted resin (brownish) and look also for a solder points along the board that not looking as the same along the board. This can not give you the actual mileage of the vehicle, but for sure it's a indication that the mileage was altered. Not always this happens because a rolling back business was done on the vehicle, but a used swapped cluster will never match your mileage and need to be adjusted. I did fix a lot of cluster with stepper motor problems, fading displays, etc, but is more common that the customer just replace the cluster for a used one. Programming and immo issues is another story....
