Default Navigation update

I have a 2009 XF and also a 2005 s type. Both have cd rom in the trunk for Navigation. Both obviously outdated. Can I just buy any newer cd to insert into the device to get more recent map info? Or does it have to be a Jag specific cd disk? Where do I get these disks?

I've never seen any available update discs for North America since 2008-2009, only EU ones.
There might be USB updates for NA, though to be honest, I've never checked.

I usually use my phone for directions as I can't stand having to start every navigation request by changing from the default state of DC.

The last CD for 2004-2009 XJ models was 2012---I bought one off ebay years ago.
The last update for 2012-2015 XF using USB, was 2020 --I bought one last year . It covers the 48 contiguous states, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Canada and Mexico.

navigation updates
Updates for your navigation system in your car are only available up to an average of 5 years after manufactor date, so the last update for your car would be 2014. I have a 2014 xf and was able to get the 2020 usb update off the jaguar site last year. It's expensive and has to be installed with the car running which can take anywhere up to 8 hours.

Hi Capton1
Greetings from Australia. I hope this is might be helpful albeit indirectly. I have a 2008 XF and in 2021 I managed to make contact with a small company in Sydney Australia. They were advertising the latest updates in CD ROM from for Jaguar, BMW and similar vehicles. I was a bit nervous as I thought this could be a scam. The cost was going to be $200 but I thought given I hadn't been able to update my Sat Nav CD Rom since 2014 as stated above I thought I'd give it ago.

After placing the order I heard nothing for around 4 weeks and then from no where came a small parcel with the CD Rom labelled 2021. I inserted it in the trunk unit and it worked. I then programmed trips that I absolutely knew were on roads that either were not around in 2014 or that there had been major changes to them. The sat nav system is working perfectly and at $200 whilst I won't update every year I certainly would do so every 2 or 3 years.

Whilst it is in Australia, this firm obviously has access to the data etc to update each year. If there is a business like that here in Australia for a very tiny Jaguar market, then I'm guessing someone must be doing this somewhere in the USA. If you like I can email the guy and see if he has any connection to a USA outfit.

Regards

GEE VEE XF

Hi drjohn,

It must be the global brain working because I've just fired off my payment to get the 2022 XF Jaguar update.

Here are the links

Email: gpsupdateaustralia@gmail.com
Web page is Navigation Australia = https://www.navigationau.com/

Just to reiterate. The web site is a bit clunky and almost looks a bit suspect in terms of its look and feel. The ordering is also unusual in that when you place your order they send an email that you then give them all the details and they then give you the EFT details. They don't take credit cards or paypal. But all I can say is it worked last year and they've responded to me today so I've put in for the 2022 update which is a bit more pricey but they do have the 2021 and 2020 updates heavily discounted.

Sad news for our USA and other friends. In my email today I asked if they have any overseas contacts in the USA or any where else and they said no. Only New Zealand and Australia. I'll update you all when I receive my 2022 update disc.

Hey great find and yes too bad we can't get any updates for the US. BUT it does mean it's possible so maybe someone will pickup on the idea and offer it in the US in the future? Maybe they already do but we just don't know about it yet?

Hi clubairth,

There is perhaps another lead you maybe able to explore. The Navigation Australia web site makes a lot of reference to BMW in terms of also being able to provide sat nav updates for them and I wonder and it's only a guess if the guy is using all the source data from BMW and converting that in some way??? I only mention it given the huge number of BMW's getting around compared to Jaguar(sadly) and whether you have contacts in a BMW forum that might direct you in some way to someone in the US who is doing the CD ROM updates for older BMW that could help. I could not envisage thousands of BMW's getting around with unueable sat navs!!! I am not a techno type person but you just never know. Good luck hunting.

GeeVeeXF Great Work!!
The first link has a 2020-2021 version listed for my model of XJ (X351) so I will pursue that. As you said the problem with that one is the US is NOT one of the listed countries. I sent an E-mail asking if he did have any US updates. So we will see.

The second link is VERY interesting but something is going on because all the links just go back to the web site. When clicking the contact button no E-mail address comes up so I can't contact him in any way?

Update; The UK guy got back to me but no US maps. Well it was a possibility.

Hi Everyone,

Just an update to say the 2022 (V28) update disc arrived last week hassle free. The changeover went perfectly smooth as it always does. I checked out a couple of road changes here in Melbourne that I knew weren't in the previous update and they are in the new update so that gave me lots of confidence. I've just returned from a 960km round trip to north western Victoria and I took the opportunity to plan a trip that I knew earlier versions did not cover. It was literally to a small country side road intersection connecting to a secondary road and not only did it work but when I requested the three trip options it came up with those as well. There is no doubt earlier versions were quite restricted on the extent of rural roads but now it is very comprehensive.

Whilst I've had my XF upgraded with Aplle car play to access more music on long distance drives and similarly I could access the varios online sat nav apps the reality is that its all subject to phone network coverage and where I went there wasn't any. So for me having an updated 2022 inbuilt GPS system is a great back up as is still having the CD player!!

.Once again clubairth1 I am truly surprised given the size of the moter vehicle market in the USA and Canada where there must be thousands of vehicles that have sat nav systems that require a CD ROM that no one has got business that provides updatrs.

I do hear you and I have been searching. Just no luck yet and figured it was the same old story. Just not enough demand from Jaguar owners to make it worthwhile from a business point of view?
