Please keep us posted. I have a 2012 and I cannot stand the brake dust.

I need to replace the pads.

Did you get the pads online? If so, where?

Thanks.

I have 42k on my 09 XF SC and the dealership told me that I will need new brake pads and rotors when I reach 45k. The rears were done at 35k.

The service advisor informed me that the front rotors wear out prematurly because of the material that is used in them.

Two questions:

1. On average, do rotors need to be replaced at 45k

2. Jaguar quoted me a price of $710 for pads and rotors. Would you go to a brake shop and pay 200 less with the same parts? Or should Jag handle.

Please advise.

Problem with not replacing rotors is will the old ones last for the full life of new pads. If not then cost effective to fit new rotors.

Modern brake pads use hard materials which wear the rotors more quickly than older brakes. My rear pads are "down to the metal" according to my mechanic (which cannot be). The rotors show significant wear. I will fit new ones with the new pads this summer.

What year and what engine do you have? This combination wasn't available for 2010 5.0 when I checked last fall.

I bought Porterfield pads front and rear and they're fantastic. Dust is down 95% and there is no noise or other adverse effects.

Akebono does not make front pads for the XF.

I don't meant to rain on your parade, but keep an eye on those EBCs. Every person i know who used them, had problems with them.

If you use EBC brakes, you might want to inspect them.. - Lincoln vs Cadillac

I've been using EBC yellow (rear mostly - used to use it on front on track as well but now using hawk) for my vette for quite some time and I had no problem. I never had red so I can't say much about that one but I think EBC pads performed pretty well for the price. What kind of problems were your friends experiencing?

One of the main issues had to do with pads squeeling non stop(red ones mainly). Some guys didn't even let the pads run the course and just replaced them with another brand.
I have never personally used them to give my own input. I always stick to OEM.

Hawks on the other hand are some good pads.
