Your sudden mis fire issues on one bank almost certainly points to an electrical gremlin.

Absolutely since the dealer fixed the issue, but since I was a bit late to the party and going off his original post where the dealer claimed he had "valves" not a 'valve' stuck open, why not try the simple/free/easy stuff first. Mechanical experience teaches many complicated things, but it should never supersede the simple or free fix.

Honest question: how does carbon build-up cause an injector to be stuck open? Clogged, I can understand.

Hiya.
I'm a regular in the XKR forum, but a guy in there referred me to THIS thread as I have the Same Problem, except for Cylinders 2, 4, 6 & 8. Same stinky gas smell and horrible idle.
SO, thanks to all in here who helped, and I guess I will see if INJECTOR STUCK OPEN is actually what I have. Going by all the info, that's what it will be.

Any suggestions on how to CHECK them easily? I'll talk out loud here.... can they be disconnected from the fuel line one at a time? Probably not, at least not easily. That way the car could be started and see if it ran on seven cylinders at least decently. Throw less codes also.

Heck yeah. I have my XKR with the same symptoms going into an Indie very near me who supposedly is really good with Jaguars.
If I end up at only $1800 I'll be quite happy. I've been expecting about $2500 or so.
Quite pricey on the injectors, the OEM Bosch ones are at Advance Auto Parts for $114 each. Still though, not a bad fix.
