Default Odd finding after changing front pads on 10 SC

Mounted Delphi pads this morning. They mounted up just fine BUT....they move the outboard side of the caliper out just far enough to bring the driver side front rim into contact with the caliper! The clearance has always been quite small with the Jag rims on my snows. No problem with the stock RIMs but the jag rims on my snows just won't clear with the thick new pads on one side! Its odd because the passenger side still has enough clearance. Strange!

Threw some 5mm spacers on the front and all is fine now. Lesson is that if you get rims and its close with worn pads then if you put new pads on you many not have clearance.

Sounds like the caliper was hung up and didn't move all the way inboard from the rim.

No, they are floating calipers so the distance between the outer face of the rotor and the inner face of the caliper is totally dictated by the thickness of the outer pad. The thicker the pad the further out the caliper sits. The rims were fairly close before the change and the new pads were enough to cause a clearance issue. I'm glad I tried a wheel spin before putting the car back on the ground and driving because the contact was firm!. Would have made a mess.

So, anyone running the Auriga Jag rims for snows on an SC beware. A 5mm spacer fixes things just fine. 3mm would probably be enough.

Thx for letting me know. I have a 2011 xf s/c and I'm just about to purchase a set of Auriga rims for winter use. At least I know I need spacers now. Where did u get the 5mm spacers from and how much were they? I assume these spacers are only needed on the fronts since the rear calipers are much smaller? Or do u need on all 4 wheels to make sure everything is balanced?

Any performance shop will have them in a variety of thicknesses. They are just an aluminum shim that fits over the lugs. They generally fit a variety of lug patterns. They were a whopping $8 each. I think you could get away with 3mm but I did 5mm so I wouldn't have to go back. The rears are a non issue so nothing needed in rear. You could do it on them too I guess but I don't see the need at 3mm.

I would say that even the fronts with anything but brand new pads will also be fine without spacers.
