Oil change
Next up on my list of things to do is air filter swap and oil change. Any recommendations on a fluid extractor? Also do you know what size filter wrench I need? Or anything else useful to know before? 2015 XF V6.
You want a cap style fluted oil filter wrench, mine is a number 907 15 flutes 88/89 mm internal diameter (it is stepped so fits both), fits and works perfectly. However I can't find one of those on Fleabay or Amazon at the moment. I did find this one on AliExpress which looks correct but make sure you specify 907: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002350225101.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.6d 476a05Fa1bml&algo_pvid=ced72f0b-92d8-495d-b0b9-981af27e7887&algo_exp_id=ced72f0b-92d8-495d-b0b9-981af27e7887-8&pdp_ext_f=%7B"sku_id"%3A"12000020232849379"%7D&p dp_npi=2%40dis%21AUD%21%219.25%21%21%21%21%21%4021 03399116574260278961847e2763%2112000020232849379%2 1sea
Believe me I tried every other type of oil filter removal wrench on my old XFR but nothing worked as some gorilla before me had torqued it on way too hard. Eventually one of these from Supercheap Auto worked: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/...mm/542341.html but the cap style is much easier to use.
As for a fluid extractor/vacuum pump you preferably want one with an 8 litre capacity as the Jag V6 takes 7.25 litres of engine oil, MityVac is a popular choice with a good rep but a bit pricey. I bought a much cheaper Chinese version several years ago, works well enough but it turned out to be only 6.5 litres max capacity despite the markings going to 7.5 litres. Just means I have to stop part way through and empty it before it overflows!
The key to using one of these oil extraction pumps is to make sure you get a nice tight vacuum seal over the top of the extraction tube inside the oil filler cap. Most extractors come with a range of fittings such that one of them should do the job. Another trap for young players, often based on erroneous YouTube vids, is to assume the pump tube goes down the extraction tube all the way to the sump as though it was a dip stick. No it don't, it doesn't go in the extraction tube at all, it fits over/around the top.
Edit - as per usual the AliExpress link does not work but if you go to the AliExpress home page and search for "oil filter wrench" you will find the correct listing.
Edit # 2 - found the one you want at Supercheap, for a good price, but it is "special order" so you could be waiting forever for it: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/...start=69&sz=60

That's what I thought but when I search on an auto parts store it shows all different sizes because the compatibility is set to universal for all of them, really annoying. This is the kind of info I was looking for. I was able to find some filter pliers that will work too if I can't find the cap style.
Be sure and have the engine warm but not hot. Fluid flows better but if too hot might cause problems with the cheap plastic extraction devices.
I also have a cheap chinese one. Have you looked at Harbor Freight?
Sorry about that as I just looked and these things have jumped to the moon!!!
Almost $150 for the plastic one and $200 for the metal one!!!
Mine was about $80 several years ago and I thought that was high?
WOW has inflation hit hard!!

I have the MityVac MV7201 with the larger 8.8 liter capacity and it has easily paid for itself in 3+ years of use. Amazon has plenty of them for ~$115. The Chinese or HF models are ~$100. Can't comment on them, but for $15 difference I'd buy the MityVac again.

Please excuse my ignorance, but why a fluid extractor for an oil change?
**EDIT**
Nevermind. I figured it out. This is the first vehicle I've owned with an extraction tube.

I got excited when I learned of this, makes oil changes easy.
Yes that's the one I have too. Mine is only the 6.5L version and I do see it's still about $82. So I have to dump mine before all the oil is removed.
The thing I like is it's hand powered or you can use compressed air. So if the fluid is not moving very quickly I can attach my air hose and just let it work. No effort on my part.
The thing I don't like and it seems that all of them are built like this? You can't take the top off to clean the container out. So I empty it and put some solvent in it and swirl it around and then pour that out. I guess since it's all used oil it does not matter how clean the container is.
