When I've run some likely VIN numbers through JLR Topix database, this campaign has come up a few times as outstanding on the vehicle(s) - anybody in the trade know what / why this reprogram is "desired" ?

I assume if the vehicle is out of warranty, the dealer will only do this if their palm is crossed with silver - assuming it's not considered a safety issue.

 

I have no clue as to exactly which ECM recall you speak of..But the latest one I got was to desensitize or broaden the parameters for the O2 sensors and a few other emission items..In other words, the CEL won't be coming on for nuisance emission imbalance before the engine has a chance to stabilize.

 

Funny you should mention it, I just got a recall notice in the mail today that I should have it done at no charge. It's almost like once a year, there is yet another recall to waste my time with another visit to the dealer.

 

The recall is to make sure the VIN is stored in the ECM. The VIN is necessary for some states when they do an emissions test. It is also necessary for some vehicle diagnoses.
