Default P0016-00

Hi Guys,

This isn't my XFR that's causing problems, it's my 5.0 Supercharged L322 Range Rover. I've had a 4.2 SC Range Rover for years but having had my XFR for 5 years, the draw of a 5.0 in a Range Rover was too much to turn down.

I bought this one as a project as it had a P0016-00 error code stored. The car was located 430 miles from me but the seller advised that the car had only done 7 miles since this code started to occur. I bought the car, jumped on a plane, checked all the fluids and then proceeded to drive it home very gently. I kept it below 2000rpm and sat with the cruise control on at 65mph the whole way which equated to 1800rpm.

The engine on the car is very quiet (barely any noisier then my 2014 XFR), there is zero rattle from it at start up, and on the trip home it averaged 28mpg so whatever is affecting it isn't causing much trouble.

Before leaving the sellers house I cleared the fault with my IID tool and all the warning disappeared off the dashboard. However, before the car had even finished cranking the restricted performance and engine management lights appeared on the dashboard.

I had it in my head that the car was going to need the chains and guides doing, however, there were zero misfires that I could feel, the car was smooth and it felt torquey when accelerating below 2000rpm. As the fault appears instantly before the car has even started, I'm wondering if it could be something much simpler and something that's worth looking into before delving in to do the chains.

I'd be grateful for any pointers that can be given as with my XFR now being out of warranty I've got a lot to learn

Having had my IID tool on the car tonight monitoring the live values, I can see that there’s about a 5 degree difference between the intake cam on Bank 1 and Bank 2.

I’m convinced I could hear a little chain rattle off it tonight when it started as well.

Chain kit it is then [img]data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7[/img] Just waiting for the dealer to come back to me with a cost for the timing kit now.

what tool are you using to read can position?

I was using my GAP IID tool.

Mine ended up needing a new chain kit, 4 VVT variators and a Supercharger rebuild.


I caught it in the nick of time!
