Thumbs up Surprised by MPG of XFR

Had my had my "new to me" XFR in the shops for the last several days and was driving a Land Rover LR2 courtesy car with a turbo 4 banger. On the 60 mile trip back to the dealership I recorded an ave MPG of 22.8 @ about 70mph. On the way back with the XFR... 23.6mpg! maybe it was my expectation of much worse but I was pretty surprised and exited to see it beat out the smaller engine. My conscience is now much clearer when driving. Now if only I could keep it out of sport mode... unfortunately I've trained my 1 1/2 year old to yell "go!" from the back seat when he sees we're on certain roads. I'm still getting used to this whole role model thing .

Congratulations on the XFR. These cars do get very good gas mileage, considering the HP they put out..... I am sure he loves the 510hp nudge it gives

I achieve similar and sometimes better results I'm my SC. Agree that it is a pleasant feature if you stay off the pedal.

That's a really big IF. I have been able to do the same on the freeway, but never anything close if there are stop lights.

2011 XF S/C here.
Best 100 mile highway run - 24.7MPG (~60-65MPH with a couple of toll booths).
Around town - 14.7 - 15.5MPG
My average over 31,000 miles total - 16.1MPG. (I have the ETG ECU upgrade since 6,000 miles and love it)....

Previous 2010 XF 5.0 NA best highway as I recall was 27.8MPG, total over 23,000 miles was 16.8MPG

Sounds like you're being a perfect role model for the next generation of Jaguar drivers!

Yes, but I knew that going in to the purchase. I never thought in would get the highway mpg. My average is somewhere around 16 mpg. My BMW x5 was worse and and with an underpowered 6 banger.

Steady state cruise @ 65 mph is about 25.2 mpg. That is you set cruise control at 65 mph, reset the trip computer and drive 30~40 miles WITHOUT braking and accelerating. That is on an XF Suercharged. Realistically though you are not going to get that. I average about 15~16 mpg driving to work and around town. 60% freeway, 40% local.

I average 14 in the city (Los Angeles) but I am an aggressive driver. I have never done better than 16. But I cruise at 70-90 mph on the freeway when there's no traffic.

I get about 22mpg City when I drive with a very light foot and use cruise control in my 2012 XFR. But when I'm having fun in the city and using sport mode it reads 10mpg .

Lol, it's worth every cent if gas even if it was 5mpg, I just don't want to sound like person who wastes gas and doesn't care.

You should waste gas and not care. Actually, if you really think about it, Americans like big cars, and they like powerful cars. If it's government for the people by the people, then the government is compelled to cater to the public will and find the sources of energy that we need. Instead of it being a top-down system where the government tells us what we can and can't have, we should have the government work for us and get us the oil that we need to live our lives the way we deem appropriate.

I have a '13 XF 3.0 Supercharged and typically average about 24 mpg on my weekly work commute. It's about 75% highway, but even then there is a lot of traffic. My best weekly commute was 27.4 mpg with a frugal foot. My best overall mpg was on a trip from Cleveland to Columbus with the cruise set at 71. I managed 32 mpg on that 150 mile trip. Very impressed at what it can do. I'd be interested in hearing how the 2.0 t's out there are doing.
