I just got an error code on my vehicle yesterday (P0042) and I've been trying to figure out what the part number for it is to replace it but to no avail. I know it's a bank 1 sensor 3 but all the descriptions for parts list the location for the sensor (left, right, center etc.) and I'm not exactly sure where this sensor is located to even narrow down the search. I tried looking up on different forums and websites but I can't find the one for my model : XF, 2013, 3.0, V6 supercharged. Could anyone please point me in the right direction?
Also consider changing both while your in there. They have had the same amount of use so just common sense.
Good point about checking part numbers and Jaguar needs the last 6 digits of your VIN to determine what parts fit.

Jag uses the same sensor for left and right. You might want to double check with a parts department before ordering.
Thank you for this, I appreciate it! That's good to know it's on the right side and that it's the same sensor for both left and right. Just for my knowledge : There's multiple positions indicated for the part on the page you linked (" Left Rear, Left Lower, Right Rear, Right Lower, Rear, Rear Lower, Rear Left Rear, Rear Left Lower " ), do they all indicate the same 2 left and right positions or would it be something else? This was one of the things throwing me off quite a bit too initially, so just wanted to ask how to determine this for future reference.
I also called a Jaguar Dealership and they said the part is under warranty till 2029, so it would be covered!

Thank you for the suggestion! It makes sense. Since the dealership is changing this for me now (as it's under warranty), would it be appropriate to ask them to change the other one too? I'm guessing they wouldn't agree to this as it's a loss for them but not sure if you had a different experience with them. Yes, I did provide them with my VIN.
No they won't. The dealer will only fix what's wrong and that's OK but one of the draw backs of using a dealer. Until you have a failure nothing will be done. I DIY and think about things in the long term as I plan to keep the car. So for me I would replace both just to save some effort in the future.
Attached is a diagram for the 5.0L V-8 but the 6 cylinders also have 6 O2 sensors so it it's confusing.
Of course you got until 2029 for the rest of them to fail under warrantee! If you did not know Jaguar has extended the O2 sensor warrantee to 10+ years on most cars.
Attached is the bulletin Jaguar sent out when they extended the O2 warrantee.
Might be worth while to print it out for future use at a dealer?

Man after my own heart ! Yes, I feel the same way but in the case of very expensive parts like this part is , I hit my brakes>
Issue : faulty sensor
Reason for failure : could be random , not necessarily indicating replacement of other sensor. Sensors can sometimes fail randomly, and this one is not a mechanical wear part but more of a chemical/corrosion wear or even "clogging" , and can sometimes be cleaned successfully I suppose like a spark plug up to a point . Since this is not a $5 part , if it were me and if it were coming out of my wallet I would not replace both but would set aside some funds for the other sensor ..... but having said that it might last "forever"

Well I usually pay around $60 each so not too expensive. I find the part number and go to the supplier which will be Bosch or Denso.
I find that exact same sensor is $255 from Jaguar but it's $80 on EBay. Same exact Denso sensor. Denso 234-4794 Jaguar O2 Sensor
I never buy Jaguar branded ones because Jaguar does not make O2 sensors and sources them from outside suppliers.
Now your not the OP so we have no car details but if you post back I can check JPART and see what we can find?
But don't use the above as it's just an example and may not be correct for your car.
One last thing is there are a LOT of counterfeit parts out there and you never can be sure. I got bit hard on a bad set of injectors and they sure appeared to be right.
