my apology i had info in another post but no reaponse, 09 4.2L non sc, recurring code was p0165 coolant temp sensor, but when I went to work on it, I got a low pressure warning, I changed the sensor then all hell has broken loose, crank won't start and if it does, just proceeds to die. I put old sensor back in, unplugged battery for 20 min then reconnected, it turns over now but scanner is showing misfiring on all cylinders, fuel pressure between rails is 50psi I cut and t'd off with pressure gauge, rails are pulsing well within normal operating range, spark plugs all clean. Not sure how one sensor could catastrophically affect my entire feul system.

Ok and thanks much!
The reason I asked is the 4.2L and the later 5.0L use very different setups. Good job using a mechanical gauge as that eliminates any question about what the pressure is. 50 psi is plenty so I think fuel supply is fine.

These later 4.2L engines (Starting in 2006 Jaguar removed the Schrader test port on the 4.2L engines) do not have a Schrader test port or I would have you depress the center of the valve and see how strong a flow of gas you get.

The ECT does not prevent starting so I would look at the basics.
BUT I find that code number (P0165) as an O2 sensor code and not a ECT code? Can you double check?
P0165 is a slow response code for the rear O2 sensor. Bank 2 position 3.
How many miles on the car and have any of the O2 sensors ever been changed?

Do you have spark?
Are the plugs wet after you crank the engine and get a no start? You do have 50 psi but can you hear the pump run for a few seconds when the key is first turned on?

Yes to prime the fuel system cycle the key on and off several times. WITHOUT trying to turn over the engine. As I posted above this will run the fuel pump for several seconds regardless of how much pressure is in the fuel rail. It would be helpful to have your mechanical fuel gauge hooked up when doing this.
Does the pressure go up with every cycle of the key?
Can you post back any numbers?

As always first clear all codes and see what comes back as you might be seeing "historical" codes from sometime in the past.

correction p0116 is code that i get regularly, i also suspected it to be the coolant temp sensor because i will start my car and immediately my rad fan will kick in full tilt untill i clear code, i regularly drive with live diagnostic on and ive never had car overheat so it is a bonus,as far as pressure on rails goes, running car is steady 50 pounds on gauge, turn it off and it will surge the pressure to about 73 and hold until i bleed off. The biggest baffle i have now though is after putting the old sensor in, car starts but im 27% ltft both banks and zero on stft so its running incredibly lean with intermittent missfire, now with the misfire its not registered has a hard code but i imagine if i drove it would end up being recorded as one. I just cant seem to figure out how a car that was seemingly driving with only minor issuses has now turned into this nightmare.

No lean codes with those high fuel trims?
Maybe drive some more and get the codes?

If it's P0116, all manner of things are inhibited so trims may be garbage or a consequence.

The car really really needs a working ECT.
(Also IAT and a few other things.)
