Prime fuel after pressure sensor change? - '09 XF
Hi all,
I have a 2009 XF v8 60kmiles. Ran great until recently. I had a leak from cracked plastic on the fuel pressure sensor. I ran fine but you could smell fuel strongly.
I took it to the local Jag mechanic and he diagnosed it. He wasn't able to get a replacement part as they are on backorder according to him. So he epoxied the bottom of the fuel inlet and capped off the vacuum line.
This let it start and drive home so we could wait on the part to come in.
I drove it home and it ran fine but increasingly after two or three starts it became impossible to start. It just cranks.
I ordered an FPS17 fuel pressure sensor off the Internet and installed it myself yesterday. Even with the vacuum line reconnected and obviously the fuel allowed to flow up into it the car won't start.
On a normal car I would switch the ignition to start and then back off to get the fuel pump to kick on but I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what with the XF. She just won't start after numerous cranks.
Is there a procedure I need to do or some way to prime the fuel?
I'm not sure if the is the same as the but it looks absolutely identical and all the parts sites show it as the correct part. JC Whitney has the FPS17 listed as the correct part.
Any help appreciated.

Are you getting any fuel to the engine? Any pressure? You didn't tell us what engine you have but I think you have the 4.2L V-8? Look for the Schrader valve on the rear of the passenger side fuel rail. Some 4.2L do not have this as it seems Jaguar did away with it at some point. Just depress it to see if anything comes out.
Turn off everything in the car or get someone to stand by the rear of the car and listen for the fuel pump. Is it running? Cycle the key on and off several times without trying to start the car. Any fuel now?

Yes I have the 4.2L v8. I'll check the Schrader valve today and report back. I had to charge the battery as she was a little low from cranking.
I'll have someone listen for the fuel pump. I believe it's under the rear seat.
