Default problems with USB

I'm getting very frustrated over this. The USB in my 09 XF will not reliably recognize the USB stick plugged in. A new stick will be recognized but then when the car is cycled more often than not it will not mount the stick. I first used a 64G stick then moved down to a 2G and even used my phone as a drive and the same thing. Works fine the first time then fails to mount after that. The phone mounted but it could not read any files I'm assuming due to the format (Android) but it mounted once.

Any clue on the issue? Any hope that the "technicians" at a dealership could diagnose the issue. I need to take it in anyway for them to look at the Bluetooth (separate thread) to tell me if the TSB has been applied.

It is just amazing to me that they can build in infrared water sensors for the wipers and sun loading detectors for the climate control but can't make a USB port that will work.

Don't bet those other things work, either! You just might not notice.
It doesn't match your symptoms, but my usb did not work due to the usb connector under the "user usb socket" being loosely plugged in. The user port snaps out and you find it plugged in to a second connector underneath.

Thanks for the tip I'll take a look at that this weekend. As far as the other things go the rain sensing wipers do work but the other.............

I had the same issue. Seemed like the smarter the usb thumbstick was, the more it didn't work, or said "insert usb" .

I got a really cheap "dumb" thumbstick 16gb, and never had an issue afterwords. ( no activity lights, no bloatware)

That's interesting. I took the 64G and did a full format on it then loaded the music on it and it worked during lunch, which was two trips. That is more consecutive trips then any have worked so far. Maybe it was the "security" software that was on the stick. I'll see if it still works on the way home.

I had an issue with my sound system. It would intermittantly only recognize the satalite radio. After searching this forum on issues with the sound system, the dealer "re-flashed" the sound module and all is well now. Computer modules can sometimes be a bear to diagnose.
