Default Programming key fob and cutting the valet key

Just upgraded to a 2013 XF and it came with only one key.

I see numerous places on the internet to buy replacement key fobs but then they need to be programmed.

Is the dealer the only place to have this done?

Also the "manual valet key" hidden in the remote will need to be cut. Guessing that the dealer cannot cut keys? Is this something that a good "lock & key" place can do?

Thanks!

Hi Joeaksa, You can program you own FOB if you have and are familiar with the JLR SDD software, you have to be very careful or bad things will happen. I have a local locksmith cut my emergency key. I try to find the virgin FOB as many used ones are not properly cleaned and will give your future grief. Just my experiences. and unfortunately I have had a few.

Thanks and I have heard several horror stories of folks "bricking the car's computers" by trying to do it themselves.

Going to buy a new fob and blank key and let the dealership (or really good experienced Jag mechanic) do it just to make sure!

Thanks, Joe A

For your own peace of mind Joe, see if they will give you your key code also...just in case you ever have to start from scratch...as you are already paying for their diagnostic service anyway
