USDM 2010 XF 5.0SC
Last few days I've noticed the AC cooling when the car first starts, but about 3-5 mins later it's not cooling anymore, if im sitting still, till i get over 25mph.
Yesterday while waiting to pick up food, the dash came on saying engine temp high, so i checked on my OBDII reader and the coolant was around 235-240*F. I immediately shut the engine off but turned the electrical system back on to get the fan to cool down the car. I didn't hear the fan, so got out to check and the fan was not running. Let the car cool down to below 200*F then drove back home.
It blew cold air and the coolant temp stayed in the 190-194*F the whole time i was at freeway speeds.
Called my usual Jag mechanic and he says he believes it to be the fan/controller. That they are a known issues on Jag/LR 5.0 systems. To test this theory i am trying to jump the fans with a 12v to see if it will spin.
The 12v(large red) and ground(large black) are obvious, and tested as so to make sure they have correct voltage.
What about the white wire with blue stripe and green wire with white stripe? Which would i put 12V to to test the fan?
Sadly, I don't think you can jump these fans. The big black and red wires provide the power, but the fan is actually controlled by a PWM signal by the ECU which controls the speed - this is sent on the smaller two wires. Then the fan controller (built into the fan) spins it at the required speed.
These do seem to fail a lot. I've been trying to track down a replacement controller that doesn't require me to spend $$$ for a new fan, but haven't had much luck yet.

I have the same problem. I cut the green. It turns the fan on. It tricks the car into thinking it a short in the signal wire to the speed control in the fan. So that’s why the fan turns on so it doesn’t overheat. The fan doesn’t stay on for a few seconds to a minute when u shut the car off. Jaguar wants like $1000 for a need fan. Thinking about buying a used one off eBay to see if fixes it
