Default Rattling Metalic Noise

Hi, I have a 2010 XF 3.0TD S with 150K on the clock, Im a little concerned as I can hear a metallic rattling coming from underneath the car (I think its underneath) when Im driving, its not present on idle.
The noise sounds like a marble in a tin can, its more noticeable when accelerating but is present sometimes when going over bumps ect. I can only hear it when the windows are down.

No warning lights, no code errors and just had a service

Any thoughts?

TIA

I'd check for loose mounting brackets and heat shields first...

Ha, I just posted yesterday the resolution I found for that issue:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...solved-183909/

I'm posting this just in case anyone else has/will experience it.

My 2009 XF V8 (NA) would have a nasty sound coming from the rear end when accelerating.

It didn't make the noise all the time. Sometimes at 10mph, sometimes at 30 mph, sometime at 70mph but I had to be applying the gas pedal for it to initiate.

I was told it was the universal joint. I was told it was the prop shaft bearing. I was told it was the rear diff.

All plausible but I didn't fully agree because the sound wasn't rotational.

So recently I crawled under the car and noticed all of the heat shields lining the area where the drive shaft ran. Several of the heat shield panels were loose. So I put strips of foam between the loose panels.

The noise is now 100% gone.

I'm glad I didn't listen to the Jag dealer

I hope it's high temperature foam or you'll smell burning smells from the foam

I did the same with my old XFS, but I made sure to push the strips of foam rubber well outboard and away from the exhaust pipes.

It's not high temp foam. I've put over 400 miles on the car since I did it and it's been 90 degrees Fahrenheit most of those days with no issues or smells yet.
