Default Satnav

Morning all first time member looking for help, I have a jaguar XF 2011 model with the 2012 facelift, I have been trying to do a map update with usb flash drive, everything was going fine upto 85% until I put the car into the garage and they disconnected the battery, I had to restart the upgrade from the beginning and now it won't go above 45% does anyone have any ideas of how I can reset the maps to the original to try again or any other solutions to the problem, thanks in anticipation bill

Welcome to the forums Toonbilly,

I don't have an answer for you but am sure further details could help get one for you from members with this same model and problem. Often what is not included in a post is relevant. Are you attempting to install an OEM upgrade?

I noted this from a previous question regarding update issues:

It doesn't sound good but I hop emebers have better news for you.

This sounds like a problem on the satnav's hard disk. What exactly did you replace? Hint: the screen is NOT the actual satnav.
I know from experience that the copy process from the usb stick to the HDD takes forever. Whatever you do, do NOT pull the usb stick before the update is done. Starting / stopping the car should not an issue, the system will halt the copy process and resume once the car is on again.
Not sure what happens when the battery is disconnected, but that could have caused a corrupt file on the disk. Cure to this would be to extract the HDD, fiddle with its write protection and then troubleshoot the disks file system. People also have been experimenting with fitting SSD disks to improve speed, thats something I'm about to try when I have time.

If I where you I would revert the hardware change so at least your BT is working again, and then try to restart the copy process again. If that fails again I might have a HDD that I can send you over

Default Satnav problems

Hi ChrisThanks for the response mate.I replaced the screen unit complete as I was informed by a jaguar parts department that the satnav system was contained within the housing, went to the car this morning started it and my phone connected and works fine, the satnav however is still sitting at map updating but doing nothing.Where is the hard drive located as your offer of one would be gratefully accepted but I'm quite happy to go and buy one provided I can find out where it's located and get the correct part numbers, any assistance you could give would be much appreciated. Thanks for the helpBill

The HDD is sitting behind the A/C and radio controls, you have to pull the controls underneath the screen. The HDD should be in that box. If you google for Jaguar XF HDD you will find a thread in a different Jag Forum that explains the location and the unlocking of the disk. Once you have done that you should be able to fix the file system. However this procedure involves a few nerd style hardware and software tools. Not sure if you feel comfortable with that route. Getting a used control unit might solve the problem as this does not seem to be VIN related.

How long has it been sitting and doing nothing? From what I recall it takes 20minutes before the update process status is restarted, and then 10-15Minutes for every 5% step.

Default XF Satnav

Hi Chris
thanks for the help, really appreciate it.
In total it's been sitting doing nothing since approx mid April.
That's even with me going out and just driving round for over two hours.
I've sent a message to the breakers group who supplied the screen unit to see if they still have the car and the HDD from it, so awaiting a response from them. I'm also going to go to a Jag parts supplier and see what it will cost for a new one, hopefully with the current map update on, save me having to go through all this again.

Regards
Bill

something that came to my mind - it could also be that the USB stick itself has an issue. Since you ordered it through official channels you may want to try to get a free replacement before trowing expensive parts at your car.

Hi Chris, went to jaguar and discovered that you cannot buy the HDD as a standalone item, it comes complete with CD player and everything else in the box for a measly £1600.00 plus vat, did manage to get the part number so I'm going down the second hand parts market, hopefully I'll be able to post some sort of resolution soon mate

I have just completed updating the Nav system on my 2012 XF Portfolio. Took a 3 hour drive through the Kawartha Lakes area, stopped at the Kirkfield Lift Lock and shut the car off with 60% of the data uploaded and locked the car. Came back after a 1/2 hr walk. Started the car, cancelled the" Map Update has Paused" message and watched the download continue as I drove home. It completed just as I arrived home. So I now have 2020maps of North America.

My guess is that disconnecting the battery is equivalent to removing the USB stick.
