Satnav lost memory and defaults to Belgium
GF 3 litre sportbrake, 2013.
Satnav memory has failed, and the database is also limited.
The satnav works fine, after manual change from BE to UK every time, and there is no user memory.
Dealer first thought it would be a simple reboot but then says they have no idea, and so they plan to connect the car to Jag HQ diagnostics.
Perhaps someone else knows better than they do.
I'd be grateful for any hints to pass on.

The reset to BE is definitely an indication that the unit is resetting as I had the same with my X351 every time I deliberately reset it while playing with it. I believe the config is stored in the touch screen unit rather than with the mapping data on the IAM for a 2013 XF, but I am not certain. There are many (rare) reasons that the system can reset itself, from firmware faults to temperature or failing hardware. It could even be a power supply issue (low battery voltage, high resistance cable, etc.) If the dealer connects to SDD/Pathfinder and records the correct symptoms it should walk them through reflashing both the touch screen and the IAM firmware. It only takes about 15 minutes. Unless they find a physical fault first I would ask them to do that regardless just to ensure you are running the latest firmware for your devices. A bit like any other computer, sometimes a reinstall can fix these problems.
Are you seeing other signs of a reset, for example radio pre-sets and any saved satnav locations disappearing as well? If so that would sway me toward the touch screen over the IAM.

Really helpful thanks, XDave,
The car is with them now, and it does not seem that they have much idea what to do.
I will send them your advice, slightly edited and excluding your personal reference.
The radio storage has not been affected.
Not so sure about the phone as much of that memory remains in the phone i think.
All else seems ok too.
Strangely I can only input addresses with a limited postcode, as if there is a core memory, which is added to by the memory stick they sell at huge cost.
I really thought it had all failed last week as the whole console was blank.
however a total switch-off, and cooling-off period, and it booted up as before.

Welcome to the forum Dunmur,

Update.
The dealer couldn't find a solution, so connected it to Jaguar HQ diagnosis, who came back with the report that it is broken, not working , and needs repair.
Repair consists of replacing the brain that sits behind the screen.
The proposed cost £1,930!
and charged £190 for not being able to sort it.
They have now called back with an offer that Jaguar will cover half the cost.
This would still cost me over £1,000 for what should be a memory chip.
My initial thoughts are that a 4 year old car should not suffer such a failure, and that the law will concur.
Secondly that the charge is disproportionate. It is the cost of a very sophisticated computer, complete, when all I want is the Nav memory function restored. (every other memory seems to be retained).
Either the design is bad, in not being easily repairable, or they don't know how to do it and are taking the easy option.
i will speak politely to Jaguar Customer care, but am thinking serioulsy about involving Which magazine (who have never liked Jaguars by the way) and/or small claims court.
I think there is legal precedent that a washing machine, for example, should last much longer than the guarantee, especiallywhen expensive. Same applies here.

Have now called Jaguar customer services. very civil.
Told them that 50% discount on £2,000 replacement ACU (Audio Control Unit) unit was not an acceptable solution. They should be able to repair it, not replace it, and charge very much less.
I think the law says i can argue that this has not lasted ' a reasonable length of time' which is defined as up to 6 years depending on the product, the use, and the cost.
product: non mechanical
use: as intended and not abused
cost: a £40,000 car.

There is precedent from members on here that if you are a big enough pest to Jaguar, they will fix the problem even if you abused it. Send a letter to the CEO stating that you will hold your breadth until you turn blue if they don't fix your car for free.

i have spoken 3 times now to customer services at , presumably, Coventry.
very civil.
leading questions were: what do you seek as an outcome to this?...it should work, and not cost much to fix... they have written down 90% contribution form Jaguar as my suggestion.
have you had the car from new, and have service history...yes
have you had a jag before...yes
what was it? S class
so it feels like reasonableness and loyalty are positives here.
i have not yet mentioned getting advice for consumer group/ newspaper.
CEO route noted, if the current method fails.
A family member cleverly thought to look at Landrover user group and found that the problem is known and has a worksheet.
Someone else told me that he had the same issue with an older volvo, and the unit is the same.
strangely: the dealer says jaguar have offered the 50% so far, and jaguar says the dealer did. Want to avoid being seen as the one who gave in? If they both do then problem solved.
