Default Service warning light 2012 +

I tried the posted procedure for turning off the "Service Required" light for earlier models, but it doesn't work on my 2012. Anyone know the procedure for a 2012. Mine was built 11/11, although I bought it new in November 2012. I believe the car is indicating the 12 month service interval.

Are you using the procedure with the Rear Fog Lamp button and the Trip button?? It's the same as the prior years. If so, I suspect you just need to be a bit quicker at it. If you hesitate for even a split second, it will likely fail.

Good luck!

Yes using that one. Question though. If the ignition is on and I press and hold the rear fog light switch and then press the start button, it shuts down.
"Trip computer cycle switch" ; the one on the end of the stalk?

1. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch (while the ignition is off).
2. Press the start button without applying the foot brake.
3. Release the rear fog lamp switch.
4. Press and hold the trip computer cycle switch.
5. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch.
6. Continue to hold the trip computer and rear fog lamp switches.
7. The message center should display "resetting service mode" and then "service mode reset"
8. Release the trip computer and the fog lamp switches and turn the ignition off.

These instructions were posted recently but have an error. I believe that the correction is #1, which should say something like:

Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch (before the ignition is on).

That's right, Fog Lamp switch is pressed BEFORE the ignition is on.

Well, tried this again. First two attempts, no success. So I said to myself I would try one more time, this time moving as fast as I can. Got the "Resetting Service Mode", but it never indicated "Service Mode Reset". I was holding the buttons for at least 3 minutes. Finally getting cramps in my fingers, I released the buttons. Switched off the ignition and restarted the car......with no Service Required indication!!!!
Where do the engineers get these crazy reset proceedures?

HEE HEE! Where would we be without engineers???

I can hear 'em now.......... "Hey Joe, <chuckle> let's make 'em do this to reset the service reminder, blah, blah, blah, that'll make 'em pull their hair out, huh???"

If I could only catch one in a deserted parking lot............

Cheers,

1. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch (before the ignition is on).
2. Press the start button without applying the foot brake (do not start the engine)
3. Release the rear fog lamp switch (1sec)
4. Press and hold the trip computer cycle switch (within 1sec).
5. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch. (within 1sec)
6. Continue to hold the trip computer and rear fog lamp switches.
7. The message center should display "resetting service mode" and then "service mode reset"
8. Release the trip computer and the fog lamp switches and turn the ignition off.

Hee Hee! Please don't take my prior post literally, just a figger of speech, y'no!

I'm good with your 8 points, but I would remove the (1sec) notations. In general, waiting 1 second ANYWHERE in that process will lead to failure. In fact, any hesitations at all will likely cause trouble.

Glad you finally worked through it successfully!

Welcome to the Forum, I think you'll find a great bunch of here. Why don't you make your way over to the New Member Forum and introduce yourself. There are also several "sticky" threads with lots of info about the Forums.

Cheers,

hlgeorge,

Now that you have gotten rid of the service light, what about the actual service on the vehicle - oil change, etc. ?

Cannot stress that enough. I've seen two wrecked engines recently because oil changes were ignored. And if you have got the service warning long before "standard" service interval it indicates a driving pattern of lots of short journeys, meaning the regenration (DPF) has been attempted often giving diesel in the oil thinning it and if ignored eventually raising level to the point of the engine dieseling out of control on its own lubricant destroying the engine in the process. (Unless the diluted oil hasn't ruined the bearings first.......)

I agree. If the light comes on, it's necessary to bring in for service. But, i don't know what the scenario is with hlgeorge XF. It could have been serviced when he purchased the car a few months ago.....can't comment since i don't know.

Mine is a 2012. Bought it in the summer and only a few months later the service light come on. They said it's due for it's first service, since it was shipped out from UK sometime in 11/11.

It only had 90 miles on it when I bought it. I talked to my service rep and he said the delivery prep was completed and the service notice should have been reset at that time and apologized for it not being done. I could have (and would have) taken it to the dealer and they would reset it, but me doing it was much more convenient. It was originally a Nalley Jaguar car, but was transferred when Hennessy bought them out.

Interesting, I got the Monroney Label with the car, but it was kind of dirty and torn. It showed a "ship to" address as Nalley Jaguar. Hennessy ordered me a replacement Monroney Label from Jaguar Corporate, and it showed the "ship to" address as Hennessy Jaguar.

My thought were exactly along those lines. The service was done, the message had to be reset!

That is strange - but, i suspect they didn't want to print out a Label for a dealership that didn't "exist" on their roster. ??

You are still under warranty, why not have the dealer reset it and avoid being voided in service intervals?
