Hi all,

I'm bored in lockdown (where I live is still under lockdown now) and so I got tinkering and ended up retrofitting blind spot detection to my XF-R. I wrote up a guide on it - I'm still refining it but here is the link so far. I'd welcome comments etc. Turns out it was pretty easy to do! I don't think I would have bothered without having so much time on my hands but it was a fun job.

Cheers!

Brilliant work sir, one question, what do the blind spot mirror glasses look like??

Exactly the same as regular mirror glass except with a small sort of figure-8 symbol visible in the glass in the top outer corner, and an extra white plug on the back. You can see the extra white plug and silver covering of the extra components in the top left of this image:

And the symbol top right of this one:

Yes, brilliant!
Thanks for the very well documented retro-fit.
You have provided vital information for a planned OEM/cross model retro-fit.

best regards,
Bill

your guide was very helpful with my own retro-fit on my 2015 sportbrake,

i do however have a problem,

i have the correct modules for my car , i have the can bus link connected, and have all the wiring with the correct mirrors etc,

however

the system will not function and i get a ' fault light ' in the right hand mirror after the initial overtake symbol lights up on ignition ( self test )

i have tried other modules and it make no difference

both modules are seen and report 100% working in SDD , i have tried the right hand mirror flash , but all i get is a right hand mirror fault light in that mirror

the left hand mirror flashes to life fro one second and then nothing

i do get a ' no coms to left hand mirror ' on the OBD2 reader , but can confirm coms and physical wiring is good

any idea's ?

Can you get it on SDD or Autologic and pull the full fault code list? I feel like that would give us the info you're missing. Or at least the OBD2 code number for the fault you have got?

Because of the way the modules decide which is left and right, it can be difficult to determine which side the fault lies on. If the right-hand-side module disconnects from the mirror (and the resistor that's in it) then it decides it is the left hand module. Then you have 2 left hand modules which corrupts the CAN messages because they both try to respond, so this logs a communication fault with the left module.

BTW, I am now not sure about the SDD settings that I published - this needs a bit more testing on my side. It seems like setting the option that I have in the document tells the instrument cluster about blind spot detection, so I get messages about faults in the cluster. But my door modules are now flagging a DTC for invalid configuration. They weren't doing this when I had both options set, so it's possible that one bit in the CCF is for the instrument cluster and the other is for the door modules. Or it might just be because half my door speakers are missing lol

thank for the reply

SSD can see both the LH and RH modules and reports both working 100% ,

however

i seem to have some sort of issue or conflict

as my more basic OBD2 reader reports ' no comms ' to the LH unit ,

i get a half second startup flash in the LH mirror, a stronger startup flash in the RH mirror, then the fault light comes on all the time in the RH mirror with the message blind spot monitoring unavailable in the message centre in the dash

Which CCF options did you set? Just the one from the document or both?

to be honest, i could only find the one line, the same as you indicated above, which is the other one ?

If I sort my CCF options by description there are 2 with exactly the same name! I would try setting both - it won't do any harm, I had mine set like that for months. Now I only have the 1 set in my screenshot and it raises an invalid config DTC in the door modules.

so , a little more tinkering in the CCF this afternoon , i have come up with a DTC of U0232 , which is comms fault between the RH SODR and SODL unit , showing as a fault with the SODL as the car cant see it, but the fault is actually on the SODR

Both CCF lines are enabled ,

it seems reading the online code faults that there is either a short or a fault with the SODR unit , but this has been changed out with another, so its leaning towards a bad connection or a break or short on the CAN system

the plot thickens

suppose i have to take the rear bumper off yet again , thats about five times now, getting quite good at it, lol

I'm would say that if you had a break in the medium speed can network you would know about it lol. No harm in doing the communications test though I suppose
Still, seems like a basic connectivity issue, one of the pins will not be making a good contact somewhere.

Are both sensors running the same software? You can get that from the parts list on the left side of the SSD session screen.

BSM radar sensor pin-out
Pin-out for the 6 pin connector found on the Jaguar/Valeo 8X and 9X radar sensors:

Jaguar / Valeo 8X and 9X radar/sensor unit pin-out provided by TOXO

I'm fortunate to be working with FW93-14F152-BD units with 8 pin connectors from 2016-2019+ XF, F-Pace, XJ, and XE.
Assistance with the new 8 pin pin-out would be very much appreciated. Especially Pins 3, 4, and 8.

Thanks,
Bill

Bored in lock down as well, so I did install BSM and puddle lights to my XF.
Its a 2013 and was all prewired in the back.

All went well, thanks for this great write up!

Cheers

I got my info from the 2010 XF-R wiring manual I have for my car, so if you can find the one for a model you are working on it will give you the info you need... I don't have access to one I'm afraid!

Had to take my mirror glass off so I have updated the doc with some photos of the BSM mirror glass for info.
