Default Sirius radio crappy sounding

So since I've owned my XF, I've subscribed to Sirius. Never had it before, but I must say I think the sound sucks! It's waaay too compressed and drives me nuts. I've tried switching between modes (PLII, Stereo, 3-Chan) and it makes no difference. Guess I need to go somewhere and listen to another system because I would have never subscribed if I had known that the sound was so bad. Am I alone with this gripe?

Yup, totally agree. With a good sound system, satellite radio sucks due to compression. I have tried Sirius and XM...now I have neither. HD radio is much better, but I can still hear some compression, although slightly. Sorry tommie, if you're picky like me, you'll never be happy with it. Cancel...

Both systems use AAC-HE compression at 64kbps. Unfortunately as all digital media broadcasters the main concern is cramming as much channels as possible in the available bandwidth, quality comes secondary.

HD Radio is evel lower bitrate, so stick to your iPods and CDs for high quality sound.

Totally agree with everyone! This was my first exposure to SAT radio and it doesnt come close to my iPod sound quality. A real disapointment with my wonderful B&W sound system. I just keep my iPod connected all the time....with 2000 songs to choose from!

Thanks all. Now I know it's not just me or my system. I don't consider myself an audiophile by any means, but how does anyone settle for that quality at $10 a month. Guess I'll start buying CDs again.

Thanks again,

Tommie

I agree that satellite radio sound quality is not that good, but its actually not that bad in the jaguar, compared to my last car an Infiniti M45 with the upgraded bose stereo the XM radio sounded like you were listening to it in the bathroom lots of echo and metallic sounding, Horrible!!! so dont get too discouraged with the sound of the sirius radio in the jag it could be alot worse.[sm=smiley16.gif]
