No way to check coolant temperature while driving. If parked you could use a thermometer or pyrometer. Put the probe on the upper rad hose for an approximate temperature. But, really, modern cars never overheat.
I smelled what I thought was coolant for about a month. Then I came out to a puddle of green fluid under the passenger front tire. The passengerside high pressure sprayer had broken. Probably what is going on with yours.
chicken bwak bwak I get up to 135 every day on the freeway on ramp
Keep an eye on it if it is leaking washer fluid you will see a green stain around the drain hole on the passenger side of the sheet of plastic bottom of the engine.

My coolant tank blew recently - very small leak - not enough to reduce the levels significantly, but enough to smell and create a bit of a mess under the hood. You could have a very small leak - I didn't detect mine for quite a while. Sounds like you have checked for this though. My Tech told me that the water pump is a common failure - mine got replaced at the same time as the tank. Could be a leak from there? Less likely to see any residue from that under the hood?
