Default Sound system issue.

On my new to me 09 xf, I've noticed that the "stereo" sound seems to be more "mono" with sound coming from the passenger side speakers, more so than on the drivers' side. It has the standard, factory fitted sound system and I noticed it when listening to the radio. I thought maybe it was the reception and tried a Cd and ipod with the same results.

I went into the sound system settings and found the Left / Right "balance" sitting right in the middle and when I adjusted the balance towards the drivers side, I could hear the passenger side fading, with no appreciable rise in the drivers' side speakers.

Is this a common issue? any thoughts as to where and how to look for an answer? Thanks in advance.

What happens when you "fade" toward the passenger side of the car? If I understand what you're describing, you're expecting the drivers side volume to increase, when fading to the left. It doesn't.....it's just that the right side volume gets lower. The opposite happens, when you fade to the passenger side. the drivers side gets lower, while the passenger side remains the same.

What happens when you fade front to rear?

For reasons best known to itself, it's all operating normally now, properly balanced on each side. When I had faded the ( louder) passenger side, the volume on that side decreased, with no effect on the ( weak) drivers side. Fading upwards to increase the volume on the drivers side had very little effect. Fading front to rear shifted the volume front to rear but with no change in the left to right volume/ balance. Thanks for the response.
