Spare/Replacement key
I thought I had lost my house and car keys recently but fortunately, I had just misplaced them. Did get me thinking about if I have lost the car key for good as I do not have a spare. Does anyone know how much a replacement/spare key is likely to cost? I've been putting this off for months but almost losing my keys did worry me a bit. I bought the car 10 months ago and did enquire about a spare, but the salesman stated that the car only came with the one key. Time, I think, to get a spare
Thanks for the reply. I have just had a quote for about £400 for a replacement & programming so I think this is the way to go

San Diego Jaguar quoted me today $507 for key fob, $423 for a cut metal key, and $95 for programming. Over $1000 for a new key! Even for Jag, that's gouging.
Instead, I ordered via Amazon two new key fobs with blank metal keys for $90 each. I will reuse my two existing metal keys. SD Jag will program these for $95 each.
I will let you know whether this $370 approach works.
I'd be happy to go back to using a $5 metal key, without the modern features and failures.

Took a chance on this keyfob from Ebay - Brand New Jaguar Key Fob a few months ago. Paid $109 USD and some change. Took it to my Jaguar dealer and was informed that if it did not program I would still be charged for it. Turned out it was programmable and the bill was $65.00 USD. It works great and even went through a full wash cycle (clothes) before I realized it was in there. I was sweating it after I pulled it out but the the bugger was bone dry inside and it continues to perform flawlessly. Very well built so my guess is it is a genuine Jaguar part.
I took the metal blank to a local locksmith and he also charged me $65 USD to cut it. Pretty good deal considering what I have read others have been paying for spare FOB's.

Following up me earlier note in March, I bought two key fobs from an Amazon seller and had them programmed at the Carlsbad dealership. Total cost was under $400, compared with $1200 dealership price.
I responded to a similar thread recently with my experience. I also thought a spare was a must as I only got one fob with the car. A company based in Dublin, here in Ireland provided me with a new (not original) fob and programmed it, all for the princely sum of €140.00 including tax. Normally we'd be ripped off for such things but no complaints with it at all.
