Is there any way to prevent down-shifts when I have the transmission in "S" mode and am using the paddle shifters?
I find that on the autocross course the car downshifts when I have to slow for corners and the wastes time upshifting when I engage warp drive on exiting the corner. Is there anyway that I can keep it in gear and just let the motor's grunt accelerate me?
I set it in 2nd on my regular course since that allows the max speed I'm going to need, I believe I'm loosing fractions of a second on the shift from 1 to 2 after it's downshifted to 1st while my foot has been on the brake to make the corner.
These damn new 8 speed XF transmission have too many gears, want to keep the car in the highest one possible, but then down shift two gears when I put my foot in it to pass.
My old 4.2NA S-Type, with only 5 speeds, didn't do that. The V8 in that car had no care about what gear/speed it was going, it just unleashed the torque when asked...

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, and
Torque is how far you take the wall with you

I thought that once you have the sport with dynamic mode engaged it will keep it in whatever gear you want once you use the paddles... !?
Or that is not true anymore on the ones?

Ya, thanks, that's why I asked. When my car is in "S" mode and I use the paddles to place it in second I've found that it is prevented from shifting up to third, but that when I slow it downshifts to 1st. I really want to try and keep it in 2nd...

Whoops, maybe that's it... I've tried it in S but not dynamic
I'll try that tonight
Thanks

I don't think that will help.
On my F-Type (same ZF 8 speed gearbox as yours) in Dynamic and Sport it will hold the gear and not shift up even when bouncing off the rev limiter, but it still down shifts when coming to a stop and when you bury the right foot and hit the kick down switch, and there is no way to stop it doing this as far as I know.
The nearest thing to a working compromise that I can find is to ease down on the go pedal, don't flatten it, then it is less eager to down shift.

Right you are, looked it up in the Owner's Manual and it said that exact thing.
Oh, well, guess it will be a matter of technique...
