Default Start button.

Just recently, my new to me since January 09 xf has hesitated a few times when starting. Previously when I pressed the start button she fired right up, but now she sometimes does nothing st all and requires a second attempt. Or it might fire and die just as quickly but a second attempt and all is well. I just had the car serviced this week but the issue persists. Any thoughts, diy fixes? Thanks in advance.

some have mentioned needing to press just a tad harder on brake pedal.. I've also experienced this is for whatever reason i press brake and make pedal firm before attempting to start - pedal needs to travel slightly to depress switch to allow start cranking.

Thanks for that. I've ensured that the brake pedal is fully depressed when starting, but in the interim, I think I may have found the source of my issue. I usually just have my fob in my trouser pocket, but as of late , thanks to the dipping temperatures, I've been wearing a jacket when driving. Being 3/4 length, the jacket covers my trouser leg and possibly blocks the signal from the fob, or weakens it at least. So far, with the fob exposed I haven't had any problems. Just a thought, what with coins, phone etc in my jacket pocket it might be enough to cause problems. Watch this space, I'm not quite fully convinced!
