Default Suggestion on 2009 XF

Hello.

I am considering buying a used 09 xf Either

Premium Luxury or Supercharged

But I heard so many around me that stay away from used jaguar because of reliability/maintenance issue.

So I would like you to ask for a tip in purchasing a 09 xf

- Go for Regular v8 or supercharged?

- any maintenance tip I must know (rear brake problem?)

- Electrical system guide? (what need to be check)

- Any other check list?

Thank you

Welcome to the forum KB DUKE,

I've deleted your duplicate post in General Tech Help forum. Members here with the same model you are considering will be able to advise.

I hope you get the right answers and are soon back to tell us you are a Jaguar owner.

Graham

If you are interested in performance, definitely go with the Supercharged. As far as maintenance, I have heard that they are prone to go through the rear brakes pretty quickly, but the brakes on the vehicle are fantastic. Get a rear differential flush if it hasn't been done yet. There was an issue with them in '09 for sure. Something about the manufacturer leaving **** in them and filling them up with fluid which caused premature wear. It's extremely costly to replace, like $10k, but I have heard of people swapping them for a Quaife LSD Diff that is much cheaper. I have heard of some electronic problems, but it seems every car has those now a days. My advice is to make sure you have the money for a few problems that may arise, but buy it. Of course people should do that for any car they buy.

I got a '09 Supercharged with 50k on it for $25k and I absolutely love it. Hope this helps.

If you want a FUN drive go for the supercharged for sure! Otherwise you'll want one in a few months anyway

If at all possible I'd avoid the 1st model year (2009) really of any car. Any 2010's or newer you're looking at? For high $30's you can get a nice 2010 / 2011 XFR if you look good enough.

I think the sweet spot is the NA 5.0L of the '10 and '11 Premiums. It's as powerful a ride as the supercharged 09, but you don't have all the supercharged stuff to go wrong. And I like the cleaner, less boy racer lines of the NA models. But the Premium is way nicer than the base in terms of interior materials and features, so make sure you get that version. And it should be around the same price as the supercharged 09, but a newer car and a lot more of the bugs worked out as a result.

Ding ding ding, absolutely correct! In fact I will probably trade my 09 for a 2010+ 5.0 this coming spring.

I traded my 2010 5.0L for a 2010 XFR. I liked the base 5.0 a lot but love thus one. Really a fun ride.

I averaged 24 mpg at 69 mph on a 90 mile highway trip today. Love the dynamic suspension.

Just get an extended warranty like I did. I have a 2009 s/c and it had a few issues when I got it. Had them taken care of 5 months into having the warranty (you should wait so it doesnt look like they are previous problems). So far its been pretty maintenance free though.

Well I just bought a 2010 NA V8 and I am now scanning the net for a Supercharged or XFR. The only drawback is when i commute it is a long way, so the gas mileage might get ridiculous with the bigger engine. The NA gets me 20-21 mpg and I hit it hard. While 385 is fast, the 470 is a lot more.

See my post above on recent mpg with Supervharged. This is steady highway driving.

If your budget only allows for a MY 09 (and getting back to your original question), here are a few things we had with our NA 09 XF premium luxury: 1) rumpled dash leather near center speaker grill replaced, 2) water pump replaced, 3) transmission coolant line replaced, and 4) pro-actively replaced transmission fluid, filter and seals. All in all, we had the car for 4 years and enjoyed driving it every single day.

Add an axle fluid change to that list as the #1 priority for an 09.

Fwiw I paid $5400 for a 4 year 80k km warranty. Pretty much covers everything except wear and tear items and trim
