Default Switched fuse in passenger compartment fusebox?

Ok, I have done this tons of time before on previous kitties, but this time I am running out of ideas, having spent the last couple of hours trying to find a switched fuse I can tap into in the passenger footwell fuse location.

Car is an '09 XF and I am trying to install a radar detector. I thought F28, labelled auxiliary would be the one but nope, it is on all the time, even after locking the doors and leaving the car for 10 minutes. So, can anyone tell me which fuse I can use with a save-a-fuse that is switched (i.e. goes off when the car is locked)?

If not then I guess I will be tapping into the blue/orange in the headlining console.

TIA

- Tim

It might be switched because it takes longer than 10 minutes for the car to go into sleep mode. Usually about 30-45 minutes.

Let the car sit for a hour and then check for power just remember if you open the door/hood or trunk the sleep mode will reset again and you will need to wait it out.

Since I don't know all of your facts, I will offer the following since I have the same car. Just tap the power above the rear view mirror (the wiring behind the mirror) and use a short 12 inch lead sold on E-Bay. The positive wire is only on when the ignition is on.

And just why doesn't Jag have the socket on the back side of the mirror for this purpose like other cars?

Thanks, can you point to the wire color? This is the wiring coming into the console, correct? Also I left the car for >30 minutes the first time just to ensure it powered off before coming to the conclusion that there was no switched fuse....

No….not the console….THE MIRROR. Hang on and I will try and research this in the archives here since this has been done before including me.

Ok, look at the image attached and it should be obvious.

I have a V1 and a dash cam connected into the switched power going to the auto dimming rear view mirror. I don't remember the colors, but if you have a volt meter, which everyone should have one just like everyone should have a flashlight and set of screwdrivers, you can easily find the switched 12v.

Do you happen to have a picture of the install? I'm about to install my Passport 9500 and was going to put it low on the windshield but am considering putting it up by the mirror. The thought of adding a dashcam too is really interesting, I suppose hiding it at the mirror would be sweet.

Ok, so in the end I wired the RADAR detector and the dashcam directly into the overhead console. I dropped the overhead console from the headliner, using the modified paperclips method and then disconnected from the wiring loom plug from the socket on the console. I wired an in-line fuse directly into the PCB that houses the lights, microphone etc. There is a plastic retaining thing and behind that is the PCB. One end of the PCB has an uncommitted connector with a labelled GND position. The switched +12V is available on the yellow/gray wire and I soldered directly to the back of the connector that mates with the yellow/gray wire.

Sorry, no pictures but if you are good at soldering this seems, to me, to be the easiest way to power devices near the mirror.....

I did, thank you again. I just didn't want to mess around with another connector so in the end either one would work.

I don't have any pics handy. I have the V1 on the left side of the mirror, and the dash cam on the right side. The dash cam is behind the mirror a little bit.

Higher is always better for the radar detectors to get the best signal.
