My dad has an XF, and got the codes for both.

Which is more common for the issue on the 5.0 2011?

Neither are common failures on that application. The pedal is an easy functional test so can be ruled out quickly

p2105 was the code.

I cleaned the throttle-body and all is in good order now.

I guess after 80k miles it needed a cleaning.

OK... very rare code previously seems to have been a failing battery.
