Default Tires

My 13 XF 5.0SC will need new tires in the coming months. I am seeking opinions for new shoes that will wear better than the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires that came on the car, I don't really need the Ultra High Performance Summer tires. Any suggestions? Anybody have the Continental Extremecontact DWS tires?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Jeff

I see you are in SoCal, so do you really need the DWS (Dry/Wet/Snow) version? The DW version is apparently much better for dry road grip and the tread pattern is completely different. I had the DWs on my old XFS and I really liked them, great grip dry and wet, good ride and low noise, but I didn't have them on long enough to comment about wear (upgraded to 20" rims).

Your sizing might be different, as my '09 XF wears 18" tires, however I installed a set of Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position RE970 tires on my XF 3 years ago. The car doesn't see a lot of miles, and I run snow tires during the winter, but so far, I'm impressed with these tires. I didn't care for the OE Continentals, and got rid of them after about 6-8000 miles. I like the handling a lot better with these Bridgestones.

Are you a performance oriented driver or do you lean toward the luxury side? I've had two different tires on my XFR and if you want performance on a budget, you can't beat the Bridgestone S-04's. Love them for the price.

I had the Hankook Ventus V12 evo's when I purchased the car. The were very nice highway tires but lacked the turn in and ultimate grip of the S-04's. I've heard the current version is better though so you may want to research them further.

At any rate, there is no reason to have all-seasons in So Cal unless you go to higher elevations in the winter.

I have DWS tires on my 2012 XFR. Currently at 20K miles and still plenty of tread left.

Depending on your budget and how many miles you're looking to get our of your tires, I found myself quite surprised with the Delinte Thunder D7 tires I put on my XJ (Supercharged, 20" wheel setup). The dry/wet grip is good, and I currently have about 22K miles on them. I can get probably another 10K miles out of the rears, and the fronts have quite a bit more tread left. Compared to a set of Pirelli's which are good for about 8-15K per set, I'm very impressed with their longevity, especially given how inexpensive they are. I bought them as an interim set, but am seriously considering getting them again.

I replaced the stock Dunlops, which I agree wore faster than I would have thought, with Bridgestone Potenza S02 Pole Position, as well. I thought the price point was ideal.

I went with the Conti DWS 06 when the Dunlop rubber cracked and the dealer offered to replace all 4 (pre-recall).

I have 15K on them now and they have a lot left and do have great grip in wet, and very good in dry. You lose a very little hot road grip but not enough in my opinion to worry about unless you drive at limit alot.

The DWS 06 tires are very good in my opinion.
