Default Touch Screen Turning Off, Diagnostic Said Lost Communication

I've just got an XF 2008 and was having a great time for a week or so. Then the touch screen reset itself, turns off then boots back up. Happened again. And again. Now it's doing it between ten seconds - 2 minute intervals.

Had a mechanic chuck it on diagnostic, which said it had lost communication. It all functions, just resets.

Put a new battery in so it's not that.

We spoke to Jaguar and they said bring it in for a £200 software update, but that doesn't work 70% of the time apparently.

Next from there they're saying it's a new touch screen (£1000+). I find them on eBay for like £100 but apparently they get coded to the car, so I can't fit a used screen.

Is this correct? And does anyone know what else the cause of the problem could be?

Lots of people have seen this on the XF. Most common issue is one of the modules attached to the system - typically the Bluetooth one. It's under the floor carpet of one of the front seats and gets wet and corroded. That can cause the screen rebooting issue. Worth a try - search on the forum for the threads on the BT module. You have to remove the front seat to get the carpet up then the module just unscrews (it's the black module I think). Remove the old one and see if it works - it should work with the missing module (might give you an error code)
If that fixes it then you can buy a module on eBay and just plug it in (get the right one, but it's not coded to the car and doesn't need programming)

Btw - apparently putting a couple of washers under the module lifts it from the floor to avoid corrosion and damp issues

If not that, check all the fuses incl the amp one in the trunk fuse box. And maybe ask dealer what other modules could cause this

Good luck

Cheers!

It's fixed itself. It seems it doesn't like the speed in which I was getting in and starting it up.

Sat in the car for a bit before going anywhere and worked fine. Repeated this every time since and it's been OK. I was rushing off as soon as possible, straight into drive and away
