Default Transmission

Looking at a buying a 2009 XF supercharged v8. He says the solenoid needs replacing. 106000 miles and in great condition cepting for the tranny.
What is the cost of replacing the solenoid and cost of a transmission overhaul. Cost of the car is $6000----kinda hard to pass up.
Thanks in advance

The 2009 XF SC uses the ZF 6HP28 transmission for which there are various service kits, see here: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...it&_sacat=6000
It sounds like it needs the solenoid kit, 5th one down on that page: https://www.ebay.com/itm/33410106420...cAAOSwEDFd8Uxf
While a mechanic is in there changing the solenoids you should also get them to do a fluid and filter change, especially seeing as the fluid needs to be drained to do the solenoids anyway and it's probably well overdue for a change. Plenty of fluid and filter change kits out there and you must use OEM ZF Lifeguard 6 fluid which is not cheap.
But before buying the car or splashing out on one of those kits I would get a second opinion from a trans specialist and preferably one who knows the ZF 6HP28.

If it is a US spec 2009 XF Supercharged it has a 4.2L engine and an uprated 6HP26 transmission.

Be sure and change the sealing sleeve as on the 6 speeds it's a VERY common failure/leak point. Cheap to change at around $15 BUT it can only be installed with the pan removed. This is not a big problem because you will be replacing the pan anyway when doing a fluid change.

Thanks to all for the helpful advise. I am picking up a 2009 XF tonight. 53000 miles and the supercharged v-8. Out to be as fast as the SRT-10 Dodge I just sold. I am sure I will be back many times for advise.
Thanks again to all that offered help

Actually I bought another Jag. 2009 XF with 52,000 miles and not mechanical problems I can detect. Funny story, I got out of Vietnam in 1968 and my dad said he would buy me a new XKE v-12 or pay for my college-----dumb me picked college. Didn't finish, marriage did not last and no Jag----till now. A little late and no XKE but a fast XF.
God a little wobble when braking that just started after about 300 miles and he already had the rotors replace----Someone saw him coming. Easy fix.
Gotta go----and drive her again.
