Default Transmission fault error message

My 2010 Jaguar XF has 36,000 miles and just recently as I was leaving a grocery store, the vehicle began to shake vigorously underneath and the engine or tranmisssion light came on. The vehicle could not stay running unless I pushed down on the gas. The vehicle than reads "performance fault".

When I called the dealership, I was told that maybe the FOB I was using was a valet one or the battery in the FOB was weak so the vehicle was not able to stay on. Well I had my other FOB brought to my location and that seems to not be the problem. Well the vehicle started and stayed on but when I shifted to drive, the "D" that represents drive was steadily blinking and the vehicle would not move. I shifted to reverse and the vehicle began to move.

I than shifted back to drive and the vehicle began to drive and I drove around the parking lot before attempting to drive five minutes to my home. When I shifted to drive the first time, the vehicle read "transmission fault". This went away, along with the shaking when I put the vehicle in drive the second time. My JaguarXF is still under factory warranty and when I purchased it two weeks ago, I opted for the 5year 100,000 mile extended power train warranty. But should I be alarmed? And what is the issue from what I have typed?

What should I expect from the Jaguar dealership, when I take it in Monday, if the vehicle shows no signs of the issues I have described? Thank you.

Sounds like the car is in "limp" mode. The dealership should be able to connect their computer to the cars OBD II connector and read the fault code then correct the problem.

Whoever told you that it was the FOB does not know what they are talking about. A question for you, have you recently noticed any "odd" behavior from the car? Have you recently filled the car at a gas station that you usually do not frequent?

Please post the outcome of your visit to the dealership. Good luck.

Not a fob issue. If you need to test the fob for possible low battery effects just insert it into the fob dock to the left and below the steering wheel. That directly connects the fob with the car.

I suggest transmission software or main car battery problems. Dealer should diagnose and repair under warranty.
