Default transmission question

I have a 2011 XF with a 5.0 non supercharged engine, 70000 miles.. At times, under moderate acceleration, the transmission hunts. It downshifts and then immediately upshifts, Anyone else have this problem?

How long have you had it? The trans learns your habits so if it's used to cruising it will change up again to the gear most suited to 'just cruising'. Especially under moderate acceleration.

If it did it under hard acceleration it may be a problem.

doing a transmission reset would be a good start. that way it forgets the driving habits and relearns. unfortunately im not sure how to do it, someone else can chime in

This discussion topic got me thinking about something that happened to our '09 XF (non-SC) a couple of months ago. My wife usually drives the car on "city streets" with very occasional, short runs on the expressway. The last extended trip at expressway speeds, was about 3 years ago. So, if the transmission does indeed "learn" driver habits, this is what it has most likely learned.

About 8 weeks ago, my wife and I took a trip of just under 200 miles, most of it at expressway speed, at some points, approaching 75-80 MPH, for miles at a time. On our way home, we stopped at the shopping mall for about 15 minutes. When we came out of the store, and went to start the car, it initially coughed and stumbled, then stalled. The driver info screen briefly flashed "Transmission Error".

I turned the ignition to "off" waited about 10 seconds, hit the ignition button again, the car fired right up, correctly, this time, and the car has been OK ever since. Could this "hiccup" be related to the transmission trying to "relearn" itself, due to the extended expressway trip?

No, sadly not. Maybe a battery that's old / hot / etc.
