Default Trickle charger settings - need help

The battery on my 2010 XF Premium is dead and I'd prefer not to replace it, if possible.

What settings (volts, amps, etc) do I need to set the mobile charger on to try and juice the battery up to fully charged (if possible)?

Apologies in advance for my ignorance.

I am trying to sell this car after having twins and needing to hedge some funds.

Anyone want a deal?!

Not if you are of the mindset to sell a car with a dead battery that you are trying to hide!

Assuming you are ignorant as you say, and not crooked, then I will point out that when a battery is dead rather than just discharged, charging it does not fix it.

Thank you for not assisting.

I can't sell a car I can't move. I have to charge to battery to see if it is indeed dead or just is weak.

Can you help? If so, do.

What you should do and I won't give any high and mighty lip service either...

But take the battery out or have someone, a friend or neighbor help you if you are unable. Take it to AutoZone or about any auto supply store and they can determine if it is dead or just needing a good charge. Either way you'll know for sure...so you can reveal the issues with the battery to the new buyer or negotiate the price around it..just saying.

And to answer your original question..A battery charger should be set for 12 Volts..it takes care of how many amps and all that...Or use a set of properly installed jumper cables from another running car, will charge the battery too, enough to start the car after a half hour or so if the battery is just drained and not dead..

Good luck

In general, the answer is the slower the trickle the better it will be for the battery in the long run. 2 amps is usually the slowest charge setting. You should check the water level in the battery before charging to see if more DISTILLED water is needed.

Assuming the battery is original, it is six years old, and it apparently does not hold a charge. So, unless some event discharged the battery, it is shot and the fix is to replace it.
Or, spend you time messing with it instead of playing with the twins!

New battery - $150; being able to start the car when you have to take the twins to the doctor - priceless.

And... I was not trying to bust your chops unless you were just trying to make it run to foist it off on some unsuspecting buyer.
Charging a worn out battery does not rejuvenate it. Some folks believe it does, but they are kidding themselves.

Set the charger to 20amps or so and give it at least 2-3 hours time, minimum.

What if his charger doesn't have a 20 Amp setting?..What if his charger only has a 5 to 10 Amp setting?..or maybe it doesn't have an AMP setting at all?, just plug and play..What should he set it on then? Hmmmmm?

Doesn't matter. The battery is worn out!

I believe you are correct, that's what I think too...But I also can see the guy is trying to cut any additional expenses before he sells the car and is hoping all it needs is a charge...I wish he would have said if it has run recently or had been sitting around for a couple of weeks or more...That would make the prognosis more conclusive.

To answer your question, it depends on the charger. Some are manual and some are automatic. IMHO, charge it to 80% on full charge. Last 20% trickle charge to 100%.
