Default V8 Timing Chain Issue?

I recently bought an XFRS (from auction) which I think the timing chain is going on it. Just wanted to get thoughts from the community.

It's MY 2014 (11 years old), and has done 113,500 mi/182,700km

Symptoms:

1. When I accelerate quickly, I lose power momentarily before it comes back and all is normal

2. The engine idles, not so smooth, its not rough, but it's definitely not smooth

3. The engine seems like there's a rattle/clicking, but I'm not entirely sure, I have nothing to compare it with. See the video below.

4. Keep getting engine management lights, which will clear themselves, or I clear them, but they come back. Fault codes below

5. Performance Restricted mode, which clear after an engine restart

History & codes:

For records, today is 11/10/25 113,500mi/182,700km

- 24/09/19, 49,600mi/79,800km

Changed spark plugs, changed supercharger drive belt

- 20/01/22, 77,900mi/125,400km

"Super charger tensioner rounded unable to remove req new tensioner and belt". No action taken.

144,000mi 108 months service. Renew front accessory drive belt not done.

- 09/07/25 111,800mi/179,900km

Owner said EML came on. 2 codes stored for charge air cooler sensor, and camshaft a position actuator bank 2. No EML on at service. No action taken.

- 08/08/25 112,500mi/181,000km

Current EML investigated, found Bank 2 Intake Solenoid Faulty, replaced and tested okay

- 10/10/25 113,400mi/182,500km EML

P2092-00 Camshaft position actuator A - control circuit low, bank 2

What I've done:

- New main and aux batteries

- Accelerator pedal diagnostic (all range inputs look fine)

- Contact cleaner and reseat on all CJB/BCM(a) plugs, instrument cluster plugs, gearshift plug, MAF plugs, throttle body plugs, ECU plugs

- No evidence of corrosion on anything

- Checked all including mega fuses

- Reseated and contact cleaner earth mounts in boot, behind instrument cluster, and right side wheel arch

- Couldn't find any damaged wires in boot, under centre console, behind instrument cluster, under floor treadplates, or in engine bay

your codes are because a 5v reference is getting pulled down like i’ve said before.

it sounds like any other 3/5l they’re loud

The timing chain looks ok but poking at it with a piece of wood on the sprocket tells you nothing. You need a broad flat screw driver blade and go straight down on the chain where it is well clear of the sprocket , then check the chain for deflection when you lever on it with the screw driver blade. Also it all looks clean in there so it has had frequent enough oil changes.

Okay thanks all. I'll get my flathead and go further down the chain, try to get some movement on it. But like you said @xalty , it's that 5V line which might be shorting out somewhere.

I've also had a closer look at the in question camshaft sensor and it's wiring (as far as I could see), and it all looks okay, no chaffing or anything. I gave it some contact cleaner on the plug anyway just to be sure. I also don't think the Jag workshop changed the "Bank 2 Intake Solenoid Faulty, replaced and tested okay", as it doesn't look at all new.

I'll give them a call Monday and seeing as it was only "replaced" a few months ago, have them take a look at it again.

Alright, I think I've finally found out what's going on.
I booked the car in for some unrelated work at FAB Auto in Chichester, the guys there are bloody fantastic, really know their stuff and super friendly.
What we all found out is that I was correct in thinking Jaguar didn't change the intake solenoid on bank 2.....instead Jaguar changed the one that was working on bank 1. Jaguar put the new solenoid in the wrong bank....
The guys at FAB Auto also told me that when I pull up into the higher revs, the solenoid can't make that more extreme position, which is very consistent as to why I can't push the car hard. Cruising at low revs is fine, but if I try to push it, I either get a lapse in power, Performance Restricted mode, or an engine light come up.
So I called up Jaguar and basically told them to fix it properly for free. Got the car booked in and they'll hopefully sort it soon

Furthermore there is a bit of slack on the timing chain itself as they went past the sprocket and pushed it in. I suspect my car (built between 10/13 - 01/14) didn't come with the 2014 upgraded steel cap guides to stop the steel tensioner from slowly wearing down the older softer aluminium guides. So I'm looking at booking in a full timing chain overhaul, something I was going to do anyway.
