Warranty or not
Just curious and looking to get some insight. I have a 2009 Jaguar XF that I recently purchased on January 1,2015. It has 1 owner and in excellent condition. 69,000 miles on it as well. Does anyone feel that a warranty is needed? If so which 1 should I shoot for?
These cars are VERY expensive to repair. For peace of mind, I would recommend that you get a warranty. The best one is the Jaguar Dealer warranty in my opinion but there are plenty of others you could look at. COSTCO and FORD Easycare are some of the others that are reputable. A quick search on this forum will also yield some really good information from members who have used their warranties. Good luck and congratulations on your new XF!
+1 - I searched for my car for over 18 months as I would only buy one with an extended warranty. I've owned it for 3k miles and about 6 weeks and already have used it twice saving me about $1500 in repairs. You don't want to own a British car outta warranty.

I agree with the guys above. Check out the price/coverage of the warranty.
I asked my local dealership's service advisor if they ever handled claims with the warranty company I went with before I purchased it to find out if they lived up to their name.
Congrats on the purchase of your new car!

Will……from whom did you get your 2 yr warranty ? I too live in So. Calif. and need an extension (past my present CPO) after May of this year.

Even though I never used my extended warranties (cars are reliable) I still recommend getting one. Reason: piece of mind.
Also, be sure to get one which will refund the pro-rated monies that you paid for the warranty if/when you sell the car before the warranty expires.

Mine is through Wells Fargo, and from what Art H. at Anaheim Hills JLR says they are a joy to work with!
A link to a thread I started on the extended warranty I purchased through Costco.

So I just pulled the trigger on an exclusionary vehicle service plan for my 2012 XFR. They are backed by Century Warranty Services. I had the option of $0, $100 or $250 deductible. Choose to go with the $100 since I anticipate at-least 2 visits a year to the shop for some sort of repair. I have always been big on extended warranties for luxury cars and they have come in handy for expensive repairs.
Just putting this information out there in case anyone else is looking. Passed along the sample contract to my SA and she said it looks legit and reads as other exclusionary policies they work with.
Costco will max out at 7 years/100K miles from the purchase date of the contract. They said the cost goes up significantly after 10K miles on the odometer.
My warranty expires July 2, 2020 or 109,997 miles, whichever comes first.
Honor published labor rates by the dealerships
Wear/Tear coverage included
Navigation Covered
Transferable (Key since I plan to sell the car before the warranty expires)
OEM Parts
Carchex: Said to call back when I am close my warranty expiring.
WarrantyDirect: More expensive then Costco and 1 year shorter in coverage.
EasyCare: Super Expensive!
Continental: Shorter length of coverage.

Hey Kyanite! Yes I negotiated it in with the dealer at the time. They wanted it to begin from original delivery date which I said was a deal breaker. Starts at day of delivery for me, 100k is the mileage limit
Thanks everyone for the feedback. Touching back on a few comments. I actually would say having a warranty is better for the peace of mind and also saving on any kind of repairs that need to be done. I did some research and found out that carchex and AA auto protection have some great prices. Just deciding on if the powertrain or the package that covers everything is more suitable.
I just bought my XFR from Carmax but they wanted something like $4700 for a 5 year/100k extended warranty. By my math, that'd be roughly $925/year in repairs. Maybe I'm foolish, but I can't see having THAT many issues over a 5 year span.
I'm thinking I'll pay far less by rolling the dice and paying out of pocket if/when something does go wrong.

Find a good independent, and you'll be much better off being self insured.
As long as you stay away from the Jaguar dealerships, I would agree. The people that buy these crazy warranties and think they came out ahead are the ones that take their cars to the Jag dealers, that are crazy expensive and dishonest.

Jags are expensive to repair,
Require a few specialized tools that the dealer has on hand,
Have over 31 volumes of specialized fault codes, and OVER 355 PDF service manuals (I'm about 80% done downloading the full service set) that the dealer can decipher for free by use Jags TOpixs. These cars are SUPER complex and nothing against the independents but PLEASE find a GOOD dealer, because eventually you will need one.
I'm pretty fortunate, our local dealer is family owned and I have made friends with the tech who works on my car there. They have done me well so far and have honored all warranty work to date.
