Exclamation Weird feeling when coming to a stop

Ok, I am new to this forum and also new to the Jaguar brand. I recently traded in my Range Rover Sport for a 2011 XF and I must say the car has really impressed me so far!! I do have a question tho, when I am coming to a stop and almost to the point that I am no longer moving it almost feels as if the car surges forward briefly, it is really hard to explain. You almost get the feeling that someone just rear ended you. I have tried stopping very slowly (meaning I take a longer distance to gradually slow down rather than just a normal stop) and it seems to almost completely remove this sensation. My question is does anybody have any ideas on what might be going on, or if this is a common issue?

I have 2012 XFR and I get the same. I just brake a little sooner and now don't even notice it unless someone else (my wife) driving my car mentions it.

It's a kick down feature that is common with the ZF 6 speed....it's slightly annoying, and actually comes and goes depending on the adaptive logic. I suspect the more aggressive your driving, the more it occurs.

I use the paddle shifter to downshift fairly often to avoid braking. When not paddle shifting, I notice that the transmission in now trained to downshift to second gear around 15 miles an hour when I approach a stop instead waiting until the vheicle is stopped or almost stopped.

Ok, so this is something that is "normal" and not something that needs to be fixed?

Does it feel as though you've got something in the boot that shifted forward (like a watermelon rolling against the back seat)? If so, it is a common issue - fuel moving forward in the tank. Tell the dealer, they will put some baffles in the tank. I had the same thing with my 2012 XF. I believe that the baffles are foam rubber or something that they just stick in, but whatever it was, it was fixed straight away.

If your car is under warranty, they can do something called clearing the adaptive transmission "adaption." However, the same thing will start to occur again as the transmission adapts once again. What I've found is that I can clear the kick down by repeatedly coming to a full stop at stop signs without letting up on the brake at all (which we all do instinctively).

I too had the fuel tank "baffle fix" under warranty and it is 90% better, but just occasionally when the tank is 7/8th full (or thereabouts) if I'm forced to brake to a standstill suddenly (rather than "feathering" the brakes, as is normal practice) I can still feel a slight "bump" from the rear as the fuel surges, uncontrolled, in the tank.
Not now often enough to worry about though and it fuels as quickly as before at the pump.

This sounds reminiscent of 'the lurch' first noticed on the 2003 S-types when the six speed ZF transmissions appeared.
