Default Well here she is 2010 XFR. Some questions also!

So I finally pulled the trigger and today im the happy owner of 2010 XFR. Excuse my poor photography I just haven't had much time as you my niece in one pic :P .. I also have some questions you experienced owners may be able to answer.

1: The manual says press push to start once and release but it seems it requires a bit of a hold to start, this normal?

2: I haven't tried hard but on first attempt the open trunk/boot button from inside dash doesn't seem to work, I pressed and tried holding also, is there prerequisites for the trunk to open? The keyfob opens it, but is it supposed to fully open or just unlock and pop open a little? It doesnt open all the way?

3: Best way to connect current idevices for audio? A lightening adapter or otherwise?

4: As you can see in one pic i found a cracked door panel, just saw this when I got home !! What is this piece called and where can I find one?

5: do you guys know the diameter of the front grill badge and the badges on the wheels? And where Id find replacements for both as I want to get the red one.

6: Why would one choose to buy the black grill from mina over getting the current one sprayed by a good quality professional? If any reason.

7: do any of you have experience with smoking the tailights?

8: are you supposed to feel the stop/start buttong pulsing? Or just flash? (stupid question sorry)

9: Where can you view any messages, or faults etc, when I turned it on a few mins ago it said something about low battery turn off infotainment or something the message disappeared pretty fast.

10: It said ready for service also, do dealers normally sell cars due a service?

I also cant seem to find the option to auto shut exterior mirrors, is that 2011 models only?

Thanks guys.

Should only be a second or so, much longer and you may have a problem

No, the interior button should work instantaneously, if not you have a problem.

3: Best way to connect current idevices for audio? A lightening adapter or otherwise?

The "classic" XF like yours has the smaller diameter grille badge, can't remember the specs off the top of my head, just search eBay.
The wheel centre caps are all the same size, except that the cheap eBay specials from China or Hong Kong don't quite fit tight and you need to put some tape on the tangs/clips to make them fit tight (as I have done). Some fade, some don't, pot luck, but the cheap R caps I bought over a year ago have not faded at all. The OEM caps are ridiculously expensive, worth taking your chances with the Chinese ones.

No stop/start on the 2010 (or 2011) MY, that didn't come in until the 2012 (maybe 2013 MY) on the XFR. You are waaaaay better off without it, it's a total PITA load of BS.

9: Where can you view any messages, or faults etc, when I turned it on a few mins ago it said something about low battery turn off infotainment or something the message disappeared pretty fast.

The electrical system will allow you to run the infotainment without the engine running for only 10 minutes before you get the "three minute warning", it's merely a safety thing to prevent you running down the battery, as the XF is extremely sensitive to battery condition.

10: It said ready for service also, do dealers normally sell cars due a service?

Not uncommon, it may or may not really be due for a service soon, possibly the dealer forgot to rest the indicator.

I also cant seem to find the option to auto shut exterior mirrors, is that 2011 models only?

If you mean "auto fold mirrors in when locking the car" then I have this on my 2010 MY so it should be there on yours too, just keep looking through the menu options.

Thanks guys.
OK, I'll try to answer some of your questions, see above in red.

Any T10 wedge 5w5 should work.
I put some bright white multi-chip SMD LEDs in there over a year ago and not a problem, they have worked perfectly ever since.
However some have had problems with these burning out or "blowing" fairly quickly, you may need to experiment a little. Plenty of cheap ones on Fleabay.
Don't worry about brown/burnt discoloration of the sockets, this is normal for the XF even with the stock bulbs.

1. You should be able to just press and release the start stop button for it to function.
2. If the car is off for more than about 8 min everything is shut down until you press the start button with the key present, the exception is the radio which will turn on for about 8 min if you press it's volume button with the off. The trunk just unlocks and partially opens, there is a simple mod you can do to the hinges to make it open up all the way. It's on here somewhere, I did mine awhile ago and can't remember how.
3. There's an adaptor panel in the armrest for USB, aux and iPhone. The communications menu on the touch screen will connect with your phone via Bluetooth for conversations only and switch between the various audio inputs.
4. Driver side rear B pillar, or B sail panel trim.
5. See my comment posted to here on your other thread this morning, I posted eBay links or you can just do an eBay search for XFR emblems, what you want is there and they say what and where the emblems will fit. The grill emblem replacement requires the front bumper cover come off. All including most of the factory ones are made in China, I just order 2 of each.
6. ?
7. Not me, not trying to give the Police a reason.
8. No, it just flashes..lol
9. That warning only appears when the battery is low. It could be that the car was sitting before you bought it and now has a low charge, worst case you will probably be needing a new battery soon. These cars are super battery dependant so don't hesitate to replace the battery if you start having lots of fault issues. Battery replacement is really one of the first mods XF owner have to do..lol
10. Some dealers do service and some don't you can ask the dealer, if they did service it (oil change interval is what is being monitored) resetting the light is fairly simple. I would service it myself though just to be sure.
US XFs didn't come with power folding mirrors.

It's a dam nice XFR! Welcome to the club!

Thanks so much for taking the time guys.. The Start igniton seems fine, I think I was just hitting to briefly. Definite problem with the trunk button on dash though.. Do you guys also know if the parking assist button is supposed to make audible tone, how to know when its on/off? The parking assist is working just curious about the function of the button.

Ive just noticed a pretty long crack in the black area of the windscreen, please see attached pic, you wont really see full length of crack in windscreen but just above the VIN, there is a circle cut out in the black around the glass, can you guys confirm if you have this?

The reason I ask is today before I drove off the lot the dealer presented me with a surprise and showed me that the card had been fit with a k40 radar system (No clue which one still trying to figure it out) and handed me the remote , so i need to make sure the windscreen replacement is identical regardless but im not sure if its modified for that k40 system or what the deal is.. But if you guys can let me know if that is just on all windscreens thats a start, and also how do I know if its heated windscreen or not?

Interesting the auto folding mirrors didnt come with US models, growing up in Europe it was always the US cars that got the cool little extras lol.

Have you checked the trunk open operation using the button on the trunk lid and the button on the key fob?
If they don't work at all, or don't work properly, then your problem is likely to be a broken wire in the boot loom, not that hard to fix or replace.

Yea they both work fine, I seen that issue your referring to while searching earlier, but both those buttons work fine, so I dont know if thats good news or bad.

Can you tell me if you windscreen has that circular mark like above? In your above post when you say "classic" are u referring to original body style?

Thanks for all your help!

No circular mark like that on mine.
By "classic" I mean the first XF iteration from 2008 to 2011 (like both yours and mine), before the "facelift" in 2012 (MY2013 in the US), with the different headlights and tail lights for example.
Regards your earlier question #4 about the cracked door/window trim, I had one of my trims replaced a few months ago, it's not that hard to do although it's a bit tedious - lots of other bits to remove before you can get it off.
I found a used replacement trim in new near condition at a wreckers yard, but that was after many months of searching. The trim is the same across all XFs from 2008 to 2015, so you might be able to find one with a bit of luck.

Yea I wonder would it be worth just buying some of the covers and putting them over, or better off replacing it... Ill look into it.. Hmm I wonder if that circle has anything to do with the radar detection system, if it does then window replacement maybe be tedious.

Anyone tried to add the folding mirrors thing? I'd love to have it.

The parking assist has volume control in the settings. You can go so loud you'll hate it. Hitting the button above turns it off when it bugs you.

Great car - congrats! And great answers from the group too

On audio, the Bluetooth on the 2010s links for the phone but not for streaming audio. If you buy a Tune2Air WMA1000 you can plug it into the iPod cable in the center armrest (hopefully your car came with the cable - the old iPhone type). It allows you to stream music (Spotify etc) via Bluetooth and use steering wheel controls to skip songs etc. about 90usd

Alternatively a cheap usb Bluetooth dongle will give you streaming without song name and track advance controls for just a few dollars

Look at Mina exhaust - I love mine!

Thanks guys!

More on the trunk button inside the dash, it appears that whole panel may not be working. I am not seeing anything when pressing the 'forward alert function' I should be right? Also don't think the rear fogs came on and the other things like instrument dimmer doesn't seem to make a noticeable difference..

Could it be a fuse or a cable?

Maybe I should have my guy check battery and spark plugs also?

Yea I was looking at the tune2air, is there a noticeable loss in quality over the Bluetooth vs cable connection?

Oh yea looked into their exhaust and pulley awhile back definitely something im thinking about!!

cheers

Congrats!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I highly recommend these Philips. I've been running them for over a year with no problem. They might be a little more expensive than the generic multi chip LED ones you see all over ebay and amazon, but the vast majority of those are honestly crap quality and you'd be lucky to get more than six months out of them. These Philips seem to be even brighter too, but that might be possibly due to the fact that the color temperature is more a pure white and thus, more visible to our eyes. But, I wouldn't be surprised if these bulbs are OES as the casted glow looks exactly like new OEM LED style on Bimmers, Lexus, etc and they seem to perform to OEM spec.

I also wrote up this DIY for changing them out: License plate bulbs tutorial

Ps can any of you guys send me a couple of pics of inside your driver side footwell just above and behind pedal area id really appreciate it.
