Default Where are error messages coming from?

A stupid title, but I couldn't find a better one.

I have a topic here somewhere about my issues with low oil level in my 2010 pre facelift XF, which caused an error message "Error Motorsystems" appearing on my dashboard (originally "Fehler Motorsysteme" in german).

Two different mechanics changed the control chain and all the sensors and valves and the error message is still there.

The car has absolutely no issues. There is no stuttering, no power loss, no rattle and other noises, absolutely nothing.

Computer diagnostics do not show anything or show random unrelated issues.

Deleting DTCs make the red message disappear for a few seconds, but it comes back again.

I have spent about 12.000 Euros in the last year for all kind of repairs which were apparently absolutely unnecessary.

My last idea is that the dashboard stores that error message somewhere.

Does somebody know if it's true and if yes, how to empty that internal storage?

The other possibility is the Body Control Module.

Is it possible that the error can be a fault of the BCM?

I am new to owning an XF so I know very little compared to everyone here.

But I am familiar with diagnostics on US Fords. There are tools to read codes like bluetooth OBD adapters to plug into the DLC and software like Forscan to read codes and perform engine tests. I heard of SDD for Jags but hope there is more available.

Please post up the actual code numbers if you can. Specific codes might tell the gurus here what is going on.

As I said, computer diagnostics do not show anything. There are no DTCs.

Sometimes some issues appear regarding windows or communication issues with the media unit, that's why I assume BCM failure.

As I said, everything has been replaced multiple times including Solenoid Valves and Control Chain.

The only thing that appears in one OBDII app is that VVT Monitor Bank 2 has a higher value on A2, whatever that means.
That appears only in one crappy iPhone app in the app's own ECU, not in the Manufacturers ECU.

Because nobody understands why the error message appears, I thought I ask if it's possible that the message is stored somewhere even if the issue doesn't appear anymore.

If I clear DTCs, the message disappears and stays away as long as I do not switch the gear into Drive.
Then the message comes back.

That's a good clue.

Does this trigger only the dash warning text, or also the check engine light?

Prolly tried this by now, but disconnect battery for a couple hours and reconnect? That will reset many ECUs.

It's only the dash warning text.
No other lights come up.

I didn't try the battery, but I will try it now.
I will report back.

YES - you already have a thread on the topic of Oil Level:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...arning-262990/

That thread is more informative with details of a previous engine failure and your modifications to the head unit which are likely to be relevant. I have therefore CLOSED this thread. Please continue discussion of the topic in your ORIGINAL thread.
