Default Will an iPod Touch 4th Generation Work?

I've been using my iPod Classic from day one in my 2010 Premium. I now want to use the Classic for my home stereo and buy a new iPod Touch 4th Generation to leave in my console. Does anyone know if this will work? My dealer told me that if the software on the iPod is above 5.0, then it's too advanced for the car. I'd like to avoid buying one and then returning it because it's now compatible.

Hello: Just recently acquired a 2010 Premium, and we test drove it with my Wife's Iphone 4s, which has iOS 5.1.1, which seems to be ok for both Bluetooth sync, as well as music through the factory interface cable. I think it is annoying that the factory interface cable does not charge the phone, but it does work. Hope that helps

There is a cable available which will charge the device. Not sure where the relevant post is though.

My newly purchased IPod touch works with the factory cable in my 11 XF....it even charges it too. If yours does not charge then you can get a 12v to 5v converter.

I am not endorsing this product - just showing what it is:

Amazon.com: iPod / iPhone Charging Adapter Converter (Black) - Convert 12V to 5V - Converts Old iPod Dock, iPod Alpine, Pioneer and Car Hook Ups to 5V Allowing You to Charge the New iPod and iPhones: MP3 Players & Accessories

Here's the update.

Ipod Touch 4th generation will work on a 2010 -- that is you can listen to your music and control the Ipod via the touch screen on the car.

The bad new is that it will not charge. I also tried a new "updated" cable (part no. C2P21008, which lists for a whopping $93) and that would not charge it either.

The only solution to this is to buy the product listed above, which is called the Scosche Passport for under $20. This enables charging of the Ipod.

The downside is that the adapter is huge. I can no longer fit my Ipod on its edge between the left side of the console and the small tab that keeps it from tipping over. Since the cable is pretty short, the only way the Ipod fits in the console is to leave it on edge diagonally across the inside of the console. If you put a lot of stuff in there, it's almost worth buying an Ipod Nano just to leave in the car at all times.
