Default XF 2011 battery replacement

Hi, I am trying to install a new battery in my 2011 XF. There are two connections, a metal ring and a white plastic piece, that I cannot find in any instructional video or photo. The person who came to tow my car also doesn't know how they hook up to the battery. Does the metal ring fit over the upright screw on the positive terminal?

I am able to get the lights on and the glove box to open. But the car will not release the key fob from the slot and will not start. The car is in my garage and the person who came to tow me cannot get to the car to get it out. So my hope is to get some help to at least be able to get the car to the shop.

Thanks for any advice on how to connect these two pieces if they are needed.

I've moved your question from X260 to X250 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

The Eye-lid wire needs to be attached to positive.

The white plug is used for the transit relay. The transit relay is removed at PDI ( Pre Delivery Inspection ) and the white plug is usually stowed away behind trim. It's not needed anymore once vehicle is sold.

Are you sure about that "eyelid" wire?
It looks to me more like the earth cable, which should be attached to a bolt on the bodywork. If it is the earth cable and you attach it to the positive battery lead all hell could break loose! Of course you could be right, and I no longer have an XF to refer to, but that cable looks identical to the earth cable in my F-Type.

Hi All,
This looked "earthy" to me as well, so thought I would check..
It is indeed to go onto the positive terminal of the battery.
Best Regards,
Michael

For future reference, there are instructions on how to put the car in neutral when the battery is completely dead in the user manual and online.
