XF Death - Coolant Leak - Low Coolant
#41
Dead on Arrival for me.
I am driving along at 70mph, Just had my car serviced. All new fluids. 70,800 on my 2016 XFS Supercharged RWD.
The car starts to act like its getting bad gas. Then all of a sudden the check engine light is on. No issues with Temp , just check engine light.
The car dies, I coast to a stop. White smoke from under the hood.
Towed to the shop.
Shop says your engine is toast.
Compression test is bad. one cylinder with 30 another with 60.
I am still in shock.
No extended warranty.
I have comprehensive insurance with Progressive and collision.
Shop says maybe the adjuster might give me a greenlight on coverage..
Will know next week.
In the meanwhile...The car value is 18,500.00-20,000.00 usd
Used engine search with ATK and Jasper are not helping because I am not a shop. They only sell to shops.
Copart seems the way to go if I can get a good buy on a rear end damaged Same model Jag with low miles.
The plan so far seems to be engine from CoPart and shop for a reasonably priced mechanic who would pull two engines to replace the one.
You guys are smarter than me.
What do you think the plan should be?
Sell it as is on ebay or facebook marketplace.?
Copart?
Jasper/ATK?
It is paid off. and it pristine condition.
I am in Dallas Texas btw.
If you know a mechanic let me know please.

Have you been checking the coolant? Or maybe it was a different failure? Did they say what caused the low compression?
Do you know about the plastic cooling pipes that fail?
What engine do you have?
If you can't DIY any of this it's probably better to just get rid of it and buy something else. You just can't predict what problems you may run into and how much cost will be involved.
