XF Engine Oil
Hi Folks,
This issue may have been discussed hundreds of times already but I have been having difficulty finding any real solid answer. I apologize in advance if I missed something while researching this topic.
I just bought a 2012 XF with 5.0 liter 8 cylinder engine.
Owners manual says to use Castrol slk 5w30 fully synthetic engine oil however I can't seem to find it anywhere but I assume at the dealer.
My car needs no oil as of now but do all XF owners with this engine use the above specified oil if you want to top off, or even if you have an oil change done by an indy?
The car is CPO and still under basic warranty so I would not want to use anything inappropriately and possibly affect my warranty. I just find it hard to believe that Jaguar would so stringently limit the brand of motor oil that you can use. Don't even think this is legal. Thanks.

You need the specified oil which Castrol makes as Edge Professional. I think others make this spec. It is a Ford spec. Mobil and Amsoil make one I believe.
Unlikely you'll need to top up the oil though. The electronic dipstick will not indicate "add oil" until at least half a quart low.
Isn't the proper spec 5W 20?

Hi Ed and welcome..I have the same Year as you..Wonderful car isn't it..?
Don't feel bad..I looked high and low too for the correct oil to maintain the warranty..and the only place I was able to find it, was at the dealer...Rather than spout off random half wit information just to look knowledgeable, I'll give all the data you'll need.
It was about $9.00/qt..but it is very specific according to Jaguar..it must meet the;
API SL spec of; Ford WSS-M2C925-A..it is CASTROL EDGE Professional... OE....5W-20...For the time being and since you get free oil changes for the next three or four years or every 15,000 miles which ever comes first..use only this oil..I keep a spare qt on hand, but haven't needed to use any yet.

Thanks DPK and Jagular
Yes, this car is truly awesome.
I have been driving BMW's, Audi's and lately my brother in laws Audi A8. While shopping I was also interested in the Audi S5. When I saw and drove the XF it really blew the others away. Power, luxury, style, build quality, technology and a super warranty. All of this for $4,000 less than a 2011 Audi S5 with 32,000 miles. My car is a CPO 2012 with 10,000 miles.
The oil thing was bothering me since I could not find it anywhere and my nearest dealer is about 35 miles away. Guess I will just wait and pick up a quart or so when I go to dealer to pick up my plates, etc...
Having some clear protection film installed on Saturday. The finish is outstanding with no chips or scratches and I would like to keep it that way. I don't drive much but after a year my BMW was loaded with hood chips. Would like to avoid this. Thanks for the information.
