I believe the mounting points and even the connector are identical (I compared them back to back). Unfortunately you'd also need to change the bumper, fender and hood to match up with the new shape of the light. So it would not be cheap. I'd say $5k+ unless you happen to get a wrecked 2012 XF with a good front end. Save up for a 2012 if you really want the 2012 front end.

It would be, as Blackcoog says, a very big deal to do this given the entire front end is different, even though some of the changes are slight. The cost would probably be more like 10K unless you can find that salvage donor vehicle, but even then, they know what the prices are for new parts. The headlight assembly alone runs well into four figures.

Sorry for bothering you again, but you are by far the most knowledgeable person on the matter I found on the web. I'd appreciate if you could give me your opinion on this: I 'm thinking about making my xf model 2009 a mod 2013. I fear though that the new pieces I would buy may not be the right ones. Do you think that my "mechanic" could have troubles in assembling a new hood, fenders and bumper ? Do you think I should buy anything else? Would everything be compatibile ? I'd really appreciate anything advice or suggestion you can give me. Thank you

It can be done. If you go to EBAY UK there are sellers selling the whole conversion kit.

Remember the grille is also more upright. The new look also has a higher hood line to meet EU pedestrian impact requirements.

I am not at all familiar with the kit that has been mentioned, or whether it results in an actual post facelift XF front end or just a closer approximation. If you want it to be exactly the the '12+ version, it's a pretty big deal entailing changing every body panel and trim piece back to the doors, though the hard points are likely unchanged (but I'm not sure about the XF) as manufacturers try not to require that level of retooling for a facelift. There have been discussions on the board about other methods to (primarily) eliminate or reduce the scalloped headlight look without going to all the other trouble.

Thank you for your suggestions, I do not want my car to become identical to the 2012 model, it's just that I had an accident and I broke bumper and headlights. For this reason I decided to convert just the front of my car in a 2012 model buying also fenders, hood and grille. Do You think it's a bad idea? Thank you for your time.

Personally, I prefer the look of the '12+ much better than the original XF, but it is a matter of personal preference. One thing you can be assured of is not recouping any if the additional expense - won't add any value to the car, and might diminish it because it won't be original. If you're already having to replace parts due to your accident, no harm in doing a comparison of the cost of restoring to original versus going the facelift route. Fact of the matter is that it's a lot of work and you have to take that into consideration.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I hope no one was injured.

The modifications you are considering could make the vehicle more difficult to sell in the future. It will almost certainly make any potential buyer question why it was done.

Alternatively, replacing the damaged parts with identical ones will, if done correctly, return the vehicle to it's pre-accident condition.

This may not be a concern to you but is something you should consider.

Graham

Here's a link to what I am assuming some people may be doing to their pre facelift XFs. Those with pre '12 MY XFs will be a better source of specifics...

Quick question about the "facelift",

Will the 2012+ Lid Lamps lights fit on a 2009? Look like they have the same size/shape, only difference to my eye is the lower red piece. I know some of you guys know the ins and outs, so hopefully you can help me.

Like these: New Genuine Jaguar XF 2012 2013 LEDs Rear Boot Lid Lamp Light O s or N S | eBay

I was going to buy them if no one has tried to fit them yet.
