XF PCM VIN Error
Hi all, I purchased secondhand a 2.0Turbo Diesel Sedan. the history goes something like...
Owner ran out of money, Rego expired so didnt drive it. Battery went flat, Security Alarmed, Car left unattended for 9 months, only One original key but its dead - non responsive (been thru the wash machine) - So I thought it would be a good idea to buy it - Cheap!....
So Ive installed a New Main Battery/ New Aux Start Battery.
Ive taken it to many Key decoder people, some knowledgable - some not. (Some Actual Jaguar Dealer/Agents/ Some Not)
The last and most knowledgable (Joe at Reids Remotes - West Australia) used the SDD system and said that there is a VIN Conflict error.
The BCM has the correct VIN number in there, but the PCM has a 'corrupt' VIN number (not an incorrect number but dashes, spaces, symbols etc)
So question is; how do we get the correct VIN number in the modules ??? and then I assume I will be able to start the engine - which hopefully will clear afew other errors...
I have read there are FLASH procedures etc but havent actually found a procedure...
I think I need someone with extensive Jaguar SDD knowledge - happy to pay the right person that 'actually helps get it mobile'...
Joe managed to;
Programe a Key and verified its operation
Test a few things (relay outputs etc, eg. he got the headlights/Boot to work.
The Electric Park Brake is engaged
The Engine Wont Start (not even trying yet)
Dash is alive/radio/nav works/interior lights work...
Steering is sometimes locked-then others Not locked - but downt know how or when this status changes...
Doors dont lock, windows dont operate.
Using SDD go into the “Diagnostics” tab and select any symptoms pertaining to the communication network and anything and everything under the engine tab delesing with a bad running engine, MIL ILLUMINATED, and anything for the pcm failure.
then look under the recommendations tab or extras tab (pops up after you look around under the recommendations tab and service tab until you see “configure NEW PCM MODULe”
Then try a manual programming and answer the questions. Hopefully itll ask for the VIN. If not just run the programming new module and it may write the Vin into the new used ECM or PCM however, you want to call it
do not try to configure or program any other module first because then you might write the old Vin number into that newly programmed module
Curious, what happens when you go to the initial screen on SDD when it goes to read the Vin. Did that screen come up with the correct version or the incorrect Vin?
Greetings from Melbourne and originally from WA , GeeVeeXF (Graeme). Perservere with getting yr XF operational. It's well worth the pain/strain. I recently had an additional key fob for my XF and instead of costing $1,350 via the JLR dealer I had a electronic key place do it for $165. The big difference being of course that my car and the existing FOBs were operational but it still required the original FOB to be programmed but included in the price.
Thanks, i didnt pay a whole lot for the Jaguar so i still have some financial leeway in getting it running, as far as i know the engine etc is all still good - the main problem at the moment is getting the PCM module talking to the BCM... fingers crossed...
Aaracuda... thanks for the insight - i will take this to my SDD guy (i dont have the SDD) and he is a bit of a wizz at this software, so your advice will definitaly help (and is also an encouragement to persevere!) I will def keep the group updated with progress!!... I have some other work distractions for the next few weeks so wont get back to it straight away - it was a side of the road purchase and too good to refuse purchase, hopefully it will pay off...
BTW my neighboaur has at least one maybe two Baracudas here in Bunbury... my number 0419935976 (SMS only please)
