Default XF supercharged 2010. Do i buy it

So I posted this incorrectly before. I wrote XK when actually it is a 2010 XF supercharged with 8000 miles. Car is a one owner vehicle. Guy has multiple cars but is getting a divorce and must sell it. I can get it for 18,000 but am worried about reliability. I've read posts here about this car and it doesn't seem to bad. I'm trying to decide if I should purchase it. Does 18K sound too much for this year and car? Millage is low, very low. I have no interest in doing anything but minor repairs myself.

So am I getting into a money pit or should I take the plunge?

I guess the questions you should ask yourself...

Do you like it?
Are you ready to do some maintenance on the car considering it is 9 year old... ?
Are you 100% sure you like it!?

$18k sounds maybe a little high for this model but could be about right as long the car is in top-notch condition - I don't know about the market value in your area - do some research and see for how much these things sell in your area and their condition.
Try and take it to a knowledgeable mechanic (that you trust) for an inspection, before purchasing it.

The car only has 8000 miles on it, and a one owner? Do a pre-purchase inspection, if all okay then go for it. I would try to negotiate the price down to say 14 to 15 grand. If you are a performance focused driver, you won't find many cars that offer almost 500hp for this price. I love my 2010 XF Supercharged. Its basically a slightly de-tuned XFR, and has the same power capabilities.

If you have no interest in doing major repairs on the car, are you willing to pay through the nose for a mechanic to do the work? Any car that is 10 years old is going to start needing major repairs and proactive maintenance replacements based on age, not just mileage.

If so, then go for it. If not, buy a new car under warranty.

I have a 2010 XF SC too and love it. Nothing major in the 6+ years I've owned it

However as lotus says it's still a 9 year old car. And many issues are nothing to do with mileage. So I wouldn't say it will be a money pit - but they are expensive to repair if something serious goes wrong. If you have a great Indy garage with reasonable rates that knows jag then you could be ok. At dealer or with inexperienced mechanics it could be an issue..

Personally I think 18k is a lot for that. Sure it's v low mileage. But it's still a 2010 car

Hi Boots
I'm in an almost identical position to you - same car, same year, same cost roughly, same mileage - I assume you meant 80,000 miles, not 8000 miles.
Did you end up buying it and any notable issues come up since 2019?
Cheers
M

My guess is not as Boots hasn't been on here since!

I still have my 2010 XF SC and still my daily driver. Going great!

Thanks BritCars
Out of interest, did you have any major (but perhaps expected) mechanical jobs?
One mechanic said to me that sometimes the transmission needs to be rebuilt and it is pricy, but surprisingly about the same as other people I know who had theirs rebuilt in cheaper cars!
I'm prepared for some curveballs, mainly curious on what ones to keep an eye on. Honestly, a great friendly jag specialist mechanic said that compared to other models, he doesn't really have any notable headaches with the XF. Couple of jobs with coolant pipes were time consuming and annoying more than anything else (also making it costly) but doesn't really have many issues with the XF up until the release of the 2.2L Turbo diesel. It appeared he is not a far of that engine and thinks it isn't right for the weight of the car, but that's more recent versions of the XF. Any feedback from an owner point of view is great
